The Role

Reporting to the Construction Manager, this role will see the successful candidate work closely with the Real Estate department; responsible for the overall management and execution of innovative store design for Guzman Y Gomez (GYG).  This includes the development and implementation of brand design standards and guidelines, leadership for creative design evolution, preliminary space planning for sites under review and management of external designers. The role will work collaboratively with the department head, external designers and suppliers on the implementation and delivery of brand consistency, design standards and initiatives on projects. 

The successful candidate will be highly organized, experienced in all Microsoft packages, used to working hands-on and also thinking at a higher level as to how to continually improve process and structure, used to working with busy people and keeping everything on track and confident in working with multiple stakeholders and personalities.

To be successful in this role, you should have/be:

• Develop and maintain new store and remodel design guidelines, building and branding standards, tools, and specifications to support GYG's new store and restaurant refurbishment for existing stores within the company portfolio
• Management of the approval process and responsible for managing stakeholder and business endorsement of design concepts to ensure projects are delivered on time
• Monitor and review the documentation of external designers and consultants to ensure they deliver high quality construction documents that comply with architectural and quality standards, building codes and health and safety regulations
• Lead the conceptual design innovation of new stores, existing store refurbishments and GYG brand concepts
• Seek methods to improve cost effectiveness via value engineering related to store design process, procurement and build costs to help to reduce the capital development expenditure
• Consult with internal business units to support and facilitate design best practices to ensure that the appropriate standards are being delivered in the design of GYG Restaurants
• Competent in the use of CAD / design software for interior store planning, generating design documents pack for GYG Restaurants, including the development and creation of standards, architectural floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, specialty lighting plans, floor finish plans and interior wall elevations in order to deliver effective Restaurant layouts that meet functional and business needs

Essential experience:

• Bachelor of Interior Design or equivalent.
• At least 3 years of Commercial Design experience in Retail and Hospitality or similar field.
• Sound knowledge and understanding of the Building Code of Australia, Industry policies, standards and codes of practice.
• Experience working with and management of internal and external stakeholders.
• High level of people management and conflict resolution skills. 
• Understand construction budgets and build cost breakdowns and ability to identify cost saving opportunities.
• Strong computer/IT acumen including the ability to use Microsoft software. 
• Proficient in the use of CAD and various design software programs, i.e: Sketch Up, In Design, Photoshop and MS Suite.
• Experience in a large corporate real estate/construction environment advantageous but not essential.
• Interest in working in a high growth company and fast paced environment.
