We’re spearheading a new downstream processing industry for the nation, transforming magnetite iron ore into a high-grade, premium export product.

The Opportunity

CITIC Pacific Mining is currently seeking 2 senior contracts professionals to join our site-based and Perth based Contracts team (1 position per location). The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated team player who is comfortable across all areas of contract lifecycle management from preparation and administration of tenders through to claims management and contract close-out. Both roles are on a 1 year fixed term contract, the site based position is FIFO from Perth on 2/1 roster.

Reporting to the Contracts Manager, the Senior Contracts Specialist is responsible for the effective management of the contracts process including the ongoing administration of live contracts related to the Sino Iron Project in accordance with CITIC Pacific Mining's policies and procedures.

High Level Responsibilities

  • Provide commercial advice and develop/implement practical strategies to procure and manage complex and/or high-risk contracts.
  • Provide leadership for Contracts Specialists, particularly during joint engagements, focused on ensuring on-time delivery of high-quality contract documentation.
  • Help to develop a service-oriented and outcome based culture to benefit internal stakeholder groups.
  • Assist with the development, implementation and administration of internal procedures to ensure consistency and timely delivery of goods, services and works to meet business requirements.

Examples of specific work requirements

  • Prepare tender packages by liaising with and co-ordinating the activities of other participating teams (eg cost control, technical etc).
  • Conducting tendering activities including completing and compiling formal evaluations, conducting post-tender clarifications and negotiations, documenting all formal meetings such as shortlisting meetings and liaising with tender evaluation panel members to drive tender outcomes and timelines.
  • Managing a contracts portfolio spanning multiple business units (eg Mining, Processing and Port etc) and multiple contract types (services, works and supply).
  • Address and resolve vendor performance issues, variation claims and dispute resolution matters in conjunction with inputs from relevant internal stakeholders.
  • As required, provide general contractual advice and assistance to contract owners in respect to ongoing or proposed contracts.

We are seeking applications from suitably experienced individuals, who are degree qualified in Law, Commerce, Business Management, Engineering, or other related disciplines.

You will have at least 3 years at Contracts Specialist level where timelines and attention to detail were mandatory and be able to demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of the contract procurement and management process.

You will have excellent analytical, problem solving and time management skills, possess significant experience in a similar role within the resource industry and have a proven track record in the development of goods, services and works contracts. You will also be able to demonstrate previous success in contract drafting and negotiations, including dispute/claim resolution and managing contractor relationships.

Personally, you will have highly advanced communication skills (oral & written), high attention to detail, advanced computer literacy and have the ability to operate in both a team environment and independently.

Other requirements

  • A copy of all current qualifications / licences must be provided at the time of interview.
  • A current manual Australian driver’s licence is required for this role.
  • Bilingual capabilities are preferred and will be looked upon favourably (Mandarin/English).
