Detail information about job Safety Advisor - Well Established Civil Comstructor. Terms and conditions vacancy

About the Company

From their humble beginning in Sydney decades ago, through to their current operating presence in multiple states, our civil contracting client has really built themselves an impressive reputation.

Matching perfectly with this is their outstanding offices, you won’t believe how shiny their digs & rigs are! It’s the first real indicator of the way they go about their business. Proudly 3rd Tier, you really get a strong team vibe here - the welcome you receive at the front door is extended to how staff are treated, with differences and ideas embraced.

With solid safety systems already in place, the next step is for a safety specialist to join and ratchet up the sophistication of the teams.

About the Role

Full time role providing safety support on civil projects, remediation and earthworks, as well as guidance with behavioural based safety systems. The leadership are fully embracing this newly created role and you’ll have a very receptive project team to work with.

You will be the primary safety resource, work with the project managers and site leadership, then report directly to the executive. Whilst you’ll be making change, the great thing is there’s no bad legacy to wade through and remove.

  • Provide ongoing safety training, awareness and information sessions to site personnel.
  • Work to achieve the project safety targets and building a strong safety culture.
  • Assist employees and subcontractors in the preparation of JSEAs, SWMS and review when appropriate.
  • Advise and guide site staff, subcontractors, site managers and project managers on all safety related matters
  • Report, investigate and implement corrective and/or preventive actions, through ICAM, Taproot or similar
  • Report on health & safety matters to the leadership team
  • Circulate and disseminate WH&S information to employees
  • Researching and assisting with the development of safety policies specific to the project
  • Carry our regular site safety inspections and audits of activities.
  • Ensure regulatory workplace and employee monitoring is carried out.
  • Continuously review on-site work practices, materials conditions, plant and equipment and identify WH&S hazards.
  • Support supervisors by ensuring relevant WorkCover claims paperwork has been completed and submitted.
  • Support HR in developing and monitoring RTW plans for injured workers.
  • Review permits to work to ensure compliance with legal and organisational requirements.
  • Assist in the inspection of incoming plant and equipment
  • Support Project Manager in site induction training activities
  • Continual improvement - Evaluate, investigate and gather information that will address inadequacies concerning safety matters

About You

You’ll need to understand the risk of working on active sites, assessing probability and working with the team in determining appropriate actions.

Very much a position for a self-driver, you’re likely to be someone who knows what works and wants the opportunity to put this in place.

Ideally you have a background working in one of the civil roles you are now supporting, prior to your primarily safety focussed role(s).

You’ll most likely have worked for small teams before, where you’re used to being a one stop shop and able to wear multiple hats, strategy and delivery.

You will have knowledge of the WHSE requirements, processes and regulations and have a high level of initiative and ability to get tasks completed.

Communication is key as you will be liaising with all levels of staff both internally and externally.

As to qualifications, a Diploma in WHS would be ideal, though solid experience will also hold you in good stead if you’re not quite there. Recognised training qualifications, plus relevant WorkCover tickets would be great.

The Benefits

The client has told me to come to them with salaries. The market level base for this size role is probably circa $120,000. I’m happy for you to prove me your value and I’ll present the case to what will be a receptive client.
