GE Hughes Construction Co are a diverse family owned and operated company with approximately 130 employees. The position will be based at our Lobethal Depot.

We are looking for a WHS Officer who has extensive experience in the Domestic, Commercial, Civil Construction and Transport industries where possible. The successful candidate will have excellent time management skills and be able to work under minimal supervision. You will have thorough knowledge of WHS and Environmental regulations. You will be responsible to ensure that project documentation is prepared and submitted to clients prior to the commencement of works.

You will also be responsible to assist Managers and workers to maintain the company certifications and participate in audits, of which GE Hughes has recently carried out its transition audit and had our certification for ISO9001 and 14001 upgraded to the 2015 versions.

Some formal qualifications in construction, WHS, Environment and incident investigations would be considered as a benefit. Previous experience in accreditation to ISO9001, AS/NZS4801 and ISO14001 is a pre-requisite for this position.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Prepare Management plans for all projects where there is a client requirement or the value is over $450k;
  • Prepare SWMS for high risk construction work on all projects;
  • Prepare Inspection and Test Plans as required by Clients;
  • Attendance at weekly management, take and distribute minutes;
  • Provide advice to Management and Workers on WHS and legislative requirements;
  • Attendance at Client meetings as required by Management;
  • Performance of site inspections for Safety, Quality and Environmental purposes;
  • First point of contact for incident reporting;
  • Manage the reporting and resolution of actions from incidents;
  • Liaison with Insurers for Return to Work SA Claims;
  • Manage the investigation of incidents;
  • Assist Management with the preparation of tenders as required;
  • Assist Management with the procurement of goods and services as required
