MTM is seeking a Risk and System Safety Assurance Advisor for work on a range of Franchisee Projects.

The person in this role is expected to support the implementation and control of Metro’s risk management and system safety assurance processes and strategies to nominated projects in order to identify and minimise all forms of risk and maximise opportunities.

Accountabilities:
  • Critically review and analysis risk for MTM’s business
  • Ensure projects’ System Safety Assurance Management Plans are adequate, effective, communicated and monitored for compliance
  • Support the projects to identify, manage and handover residual risk to MTM risk owners
  • Participate in Safety In Design, engineering deviation and change management processes and ensure the integrity of those processes through the project lifecycle
  • Coordinate delivery of Human Factors Integration activities across projects
  • Write formal written reports relating to System Safety Assurance, Human Factors and Risk Management, when required
  • Liaise with relevant non-MTM project stakeholders, (i.e. designers and contractors) to ensure deployment of MTM’s assurance and risk management requirements
  • Liaise regularly with relevant MTM peers, stakeholders, Rail Transport Operators (RTO)s, Independent Safety Assessors and regulators
  • Continually educate and promote the risk and system safety assurance framework and model across MTM and contractor project teams
  • Support the projects to achieve the required MTM business processes associated with assurance to ensure they hand over an asset that meets contractual obligations, achieves MTM’s accreditation as the rail operator and is safe to construct, operate and maintain, including risk reporting and safety case reviews and endorsement.

To be successful in the role, the experience of the person we seek will include:


  • Tertiary qualification in a suitable field, (e.g. engineering, science) or equivalent industry experience
  • Experience in Human Factors Integration activities within a safety-related environment will be considered favourably
  • Relevant industry experience in risk and safety roles (rail, infrastructure construction, oil and gas, defence, chemical processing and mining sectors  - all will be considered favourably)
  • Strong capabilities in consultation and interpersonal relationship management
  • Working knowledge of safety-related standards, including ISO31000, ISO31010, EN50126, EN50128 and EN50129
  • Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative risk management principles and hazard identification techniques, such as Structured What-if Technique (SWIFT) or equivalent, i.e. Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP)
  • Experience in development of hazard analysis and risk reporting documentation and industry standard approaches
  • Demonstrated risk workshop facilitation skills
  • Understanding of validation and verification processes and protocols
  • Understanding of risk register or hazard log management.
