Hume Forests Ltd (HFL) is an Australian vertically integrated forestry company based in NSW, managing all aspects of the supply chain from procuring land, establishing and growing plantations, harvesting the trees and selling wood and wood. We are the largest private plantation company in NSW and manage plantation assets in the Murray Valley, Bombala and Oberon.

We are currently looking for an experienced and energetic Financial Accountant to perform the end to end finance function. Reporting to the Softwood Accounting Manager the Financial Accountant will primarily be responsible for supporting the NSW business through the preparation of monthly accounting data with a focus on ensuring the accuracy and completeness of financial information, enabling managers to make sound business decisions.

The role requires a committed individual with high professional standards and will be based in the Melbourne office with regular trips to our offices in Tumut.

Some areas of focus will include;

  • Bank reconciliations
  • Processing of standing journals
  • Processing of month end adjustments
  • Fixed Assets additions, disposals, depreciation
  • Reconciling all balance sheet accounts, including following up on unreconciled items
  • Other ad hoc request from the business
  • Assists in providing operational oversight to the accounts payable and receivable functions ensuring:
    • Ongoing maintenance of supplier and customer records
    • Accurate recording of all transactions including invoices and payments
    • Accurate general ledger coding of invoices
  • Prepare and submit the financial reporting pack and finance section of the management report for review and approval in line with the established service agreements.
  • Manages the timeliness and accuracy of all monthly finance processes.
  • Works with the various teams to ensure timely and accurate flow of operational data in line with the established service agreements.
  • Assist in maintaining the integrity of the non-financial information utilised in the financial reporting process. 
  • Preparing and assisting with GST/BAS/IAS, Payroll Tax, FBT, IWT and Company Tax Returns

Key experiences and capabilities include;

  • Bachelor Degree in Commerce or equivalent
  • CA/CPA qualification
  • 3-5 years’ experience within a Chartered Accounting firm or within a medium - large business
  • Intermediate excel skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork attributes.
  • The ability to form relationships quickly
