CatholicCare Social Services is a not-for-profit organisation that is committed to improving service accessibility, responsiveness and outcomes for the most vulnerable and disadvantaged individuals and families.  This position will be based in Toowoomba with occasional regional travel.

The Senior Accountant will provide planning, budgeting, forecasting, accounting and compliance services to CatholicCare Social Services and its grants in accordance with professional accounting standards and contract terms.

This role will be responsible for reviewing work productivity and unit costings throughout the organisation to optimise service delivery. This role also contributes to the overall operational and strategic work of the organisation through its membership on the CatholicCare Leadership Team.

In this varied role you will be required to:

The primary duties outlined are a general guide only, this role may undertake a range of activities including but not limited to:

Finance and Compliance

  • In consultation with the Director and the Diocesan Finance Office coordinate, monitor and evaluate CatholicCare’s operational and program budgets;
  • Prepare monthly reports and briefs for the Director and Leadership Team, ensuring they present a true picture of the organisation’s financial position;
  • Prepare bimonthly finance reports for the Board;
  • Prepare the annual financial reports for the Director, Board and Leadership Team;
  • Prepare CatholicCare’s financial projections for the Director, Board and Leadership Team and other external funding bodies as required;
  • Prepare CatholicCare’s financial projections for the Director, Board and Leadership Team and other external funding bodies as required;
  • Provide expert advice and support to the Leadership team in the financial monitoring, planning, forecasting, budgeting and analysis of CatholicCare’s programs and to support further planning and decisions for CatholicCare’s sustainability;
  • Coordinate and monitor on CatholicCare’s compliance with all funding and contractual obligations, providing financial and acquittal reports as required by funding bodies;
  • Participate in the development, implementation and review of CatholicCare’s strategic and operational business plans;
  • Liaise with external financial auditors as required;
  • Develop, review and administer all administrative and infrastructure contracts and liaise with external contractors as required;
  • Carry out regular productivity reviews across all CatholicCare programs to determine unit costs and to assist in the development of realistic and achievable KPIs; and
  • Ensure data collection systems enable effective reporting on contractual obligations.

Risk Management and Quality Assurance

  • Develop and maintain processes for, and report on, corporate and operational risks as per CatholicCare’s Risk Management Plan;
  • Contribute to the development and review of all relevant policies and procedures, to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and contribution to optimisation of employees and work teams;
  • Provide strategic support and advice to the Director and the Leadership Team on relevant policy and QA issues of concern and develop and/or implement appropriate remedial strategies.

To apply for this role you must:

  • CA/CPA Qualification; OR a relevant degree with relevant experience; OR associate diploma with substantial experience; OR qualifications in more than one discipline; OR less formal qualifications with specialised skills sufficient to perform at this level; OR attained through previous appointments, service and/or study an equivalent level of experience and expertise to undertake the range of activities required; AND
  • Hold a valid current driver’s licence; AND
  • Have a current (or eligibility for) Qld Working with Children Check – ‘Blue Card’; AND
  • Have a current (or eligibility for) Australian Criminal History Check; AND
  • If applicable, have evidence of Australian Work Rights to confirm citizenship or a visa holder.
