We are currently recruiting for an Airfield Operations Manager which is an integral operational management role within our business. Reporting to the Airfield Manager, the Airfield Operations Manager manages a combination of office staff and frontline shift staff who actively manage the day to day management of the airfield and also facilitate other critical functions such as works control, safety investigation, safety promotion and airside training. This hands on leadership position is also responsible for managing the airfield operations safety team ensuring that regulatory activities are completed to satisfy CASA regulations and maintain a safe environment for aircraft operations.
 
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Responsible for the implementation of the Aviation Safety Management Plan including safety investigation, safety promotion, safety quality assurance and also risk management.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the Airfield Operations team is complaint with the requirements under the Airport Manual and also relevant CASA regulations
  • Responsible for ensuring the Airfield Operations team produce concise and compliant MOWP's, Local Works Plans, NOTAMS and line marking drawings that meets the needs of day to day operations in additional to capital projects.
  • Responsible for ensuring that staff are appropriately aware of OHS safety risks and have completed the necessary training, are current on the appropriate SWMS\SOPS and are using appropriate PPE to perform duties.
  • Responsible for management of the Airside Safety budget and supporting the Airfield Manager in the management of departmental budget including the consultancy requirements.
  • Responsible person for editing the Airport Manual and the quarterly updates
  • Responsible for the management of the airfield training program that ensures that Airside Safety Officers are competent in executing their duties and that the broader airfield community has the necessary knowledge to work safely on the airfield.
  • Responsible for ensuring that Melbourne Airport meet its requirements for Airport Emergency Plan and establish a program for ensuring Airfield Operations department is competent in the AEP through regular training and emergency exercise scenarios.
  • Maintain good relationships with key aviation stakeholders such as Air Services Australia that best represents APAM interests in the management of a safe and compliant airfield.
The ideal candidate:
  • Significant experience within an aviation operations environment, depth of knowledge of airfield aviation requirements and ideally complimented by capability in line management of teams of people.
  • Has high energy and actively helps to create a great place to work, generous in sharing knowledge and expertise and open to giving and receiving feedback
  • Tertiary qualifications in Aviation or Business Management desirable
  • Ability to hold a Level 4E Airside Drivers Licence
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of CASA Regulations
  • Excellent communication and report writing skills
  • Experience in formulation and implementation of initiatives that deliver good safety outcomes.
