About the business

Brisbane Racing Club (BRC) Limited is the premier thoroughbred racing venue in Queensland. We currently have an opportunity for a position of Workplace Risk & Compliance within the Operations Team.

Strong commitment to customer service and workplace health and safety to ensure events are executed safely and in accordance with delivery standards. By driving strategy and engaging the BRC's key decision makers, this position will ensure that effective policies, procedures, systems and services are in place to provide and maintain the highest level of safety awareness, accident prevention and compliance across all BRC venues.

About the role

Proactively develop, implement and monitor the appropriate measures pertaining to the Workplace Health and Safety needs of all associates. Drive a culture of continuous improvement throughout the Brisbane Racing Club Venues.

To manage the day-to-day functions of the risk, compliance, health, safety, environmental and quality operations of the Brisbane Racing Club. The role will also include Race Day duty management responsibilities as required.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee the workplace health and safety aspects of BRC's onsite Thoroughbred Training Activities and Trainers to ensure that appropriate Risk Management Plans and actions are in place.
  • Represent BRC as the workplace health and safety representative for Master plan Development activities
  • Co-ordinate and facilitate WH&S training as required by the BRC
  • Proactively update knowledge of relevant legislation and WH&S best practices to propose recommendations to management.
  • Assist to ensure the organisation is compliant in accordance with WH&S legislation
  • Maintain the hazard identification process and effectively address any hazards that pose a significant threat to the workplace.
  • Implement WH&S Policies and Procedures and Rehabilitation where necessary
  • Ensure appropriate WH&S documentation and records are maintained
  • Assist management in data recording and preparation of statistical analysis to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Promote Health and Safety throughout BRC Venues. 

Skills and experience

 

  • Cert IV or higher in Work, Health & Safety or related discipline
  • Rehabilitation & Return to Work Co-Ordinator (QLD) qualifications or similar
  • Ideally will have prior experience in the hospitality/venue/events business
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience working in a similar role
  • Demonstrated involvement in WH&S Committee and understanding of WH&S practices and policies
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience in interpreting and implementing Acts, Regulations, Policies, Codes of Practice and Australian Standards relevant to WH&S
  • Well-developed written communication, facilitation, problem solving & influencing skills
  • Current driver's license
