The Organisation:

This newly formed Independent Commission is a Commonwealth Government body responsible for regulating specialist services across Australia. Located in Western Sydney, they are in the process of setting up a high performing team to drive the industry they regulate to higher levels of performance. In order to get the Commission off to a great start, the Corporate Branch is seeking a strategic people/HR specialist to work closely with the COO to build their people platform.

The Opportunity:

This is an opportunity to take on a “greenfields" Government start up agency and to set them on the road to success. The role suits an AHRI qualified, progressive HR specialist who can demonstrate a significant track record of performance setting up organisations for success. You could come from a commercial, Government or NGO background - Government experience is not a prerequisite.

The Role:

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer you will be accountable for setting the HR strategy and enacting appropriate and relevant programs to steer the organisation on a positive path.


Key responsibilities include:

  • The provision of high quality strategic direction, advice and support to the Chief Operating Officer on human resource matters to best promote and achieve corporate priorities and develop best in class HR practices.
  • Leading and managing the HR section to deliver high quality HR services, policy, systems and advice, in accordance with the Commonwealth’s legislative framework and the APSC’s better practice guides
  • Driving continuous improvement practices through better use of people management information systems and developing stronger business partnerships.
  • Developing and maintaining Instructions and HR Delegations and other HR policies and procedures.
  • Planning, coordinating and reporting on internal and external people activities.
  • Representing in a range of forums as required.
  • Providing coaching, mentoring and guidance to others and contribute to a learning culture where expertise can be appropriately shared

The Person:

You're a HR professional who takes a great deal of pride in setting up best in class, contemporary HR functions. You will have extensive experience in delivering strategic people management and leadership of the section and contributing constructively to the Executive Team. You have highly developed interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated capacity to develop and maintain strong stakeholder relationships, including the provision of expert advice across the organisation, key governance committees, the Minister and external agencies.

The Salary/Rate:

$75 - $105/hr + Super
