Armstrong’s are currently working in partnership with several Local Council’s and are currently recruiting for Help Desk Officers in CBD, South Eastern & Western Suburbs
The role of the IT Infrastructure Support Engineer is to maintain, protect and enhance key ICT systems, provide technical support and advice to customers (end users) across multiple locations, platforms and technologies and contribute to the activities of Technical Support staff responsible for the operational maintenance of the organisation’s ICT environment.
The role is required to deliver a customer first approach to the delivery of end user service solutions and process automation. The incumbent will work closely with the ICT Operations Team Leader and other key stakeholders to maintain and improve the organisations ICT systems, focussing on delivering improved customer experience and to streamline ICT services through process automation and simplification.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical administration and leadership to customers on products, systems and configuration
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to provide technical support
- Promote and ensure the use of best practice methods, tools and reference material to drive efficiency, maintain IT security and consistency within the team
- Contribute to building capability within the ICT operations ensuring effective knowledge sharing and coaching
- Proactively identify business and security risks and opportunities to continually improve efficiency and effectiveness
- Manage the set-up and delivery activities for large-scale or complex deployments, upgrades or changes to the organisations information systems/networks to comply with operational requirement for service delivery and business continuity
- Analyse and report on the performance of assigned systems and applications to guide owners in the development of business cases for necessary upgrades or decisions that will reduce issues and/or eliminate adverse impacts upon service delivery
- Develop, review and maintain support documentation to assist others in restoring services and reduce the impact of unplanned outages
Specialist Knowledge and Skills

The following knowledge and skills are required to be utilised:
- Knowledge with administering of the following technologies would be an advantage:
- Windows 10, Microsoft Exchange, Office 365, Active Directory and Microsoft SQL, MS SCCM
- Administration of the production and test environments, including backup and restore activities, installing builds and patches and maintaining hardware
- IT Security best practices
- Group Policy Management
- Azure or Amazon Web Services
- Backup Technologies such as Veeam and Backup Exec
- Maintain and administer the organisations Virtual Infrastructure (VMWare)
- PABX and IP telephony technologies such as Mitel
- Server/SAN technologies
- Citrix
- Administration of Cisco switches & routers
- Qualifications and Experience
- Completion of relevant degree, with relevant work experience or a lesser formal qualification (such as Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA), Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP)) with relevant work skills and experience.
- Experience with change management.
- Experience working in a Local Government environment would be an advantage and highly regarded.
Key Selection Criteria
Selection will be based on the following key selection criteria. Reference will also be made to other skills, knowledge and attributes contained in the Position Description:
- Completion of relevant degree, with relevant work experience or a lesser formal qualification (such as Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA), Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP)) with relevant work skills and experience.
- Knowledge of a wide range of application software packages including Microsoft Office and Local Government Business Applications.
- Experience with change management
- Knowledge of the following technologies would be an advantage
- Microsoft Exchange, Active Directory and Microsoft SQL
- Mobile devices such as tablets / phones
- Backup Exec / Veeam
- Experience with Dell hardware
- Datacore SAN software
- Mitel PABX and IP telephony
- Cisco networking equipment
- Communication technologies such as WAN / LAN / Wireless and firewall rules and configuration
Experience working in a Local Government environment would be an advantage and highly regarded
Prerequisites
- Undertake and maintain a current National Criminal Records Check
- Valid Right to Work in Australia
- Pre-employment Medical Assessment
- Driver’s License valid in Victoria
