DXC is contracted by Beca Applied Technologies to provide software support of the Seasprite SH-2G(I) Helicopter Software Support Services for the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) for a 14 year period. The Seasprite SH-2G(I) Helicopter provides the NZDF with a helicopter capable of detecting, classifying, tracking and, if necessary, prosecuting maritime surface and subsurface vehicles using an integrated set of sensors and equipment for tactical situational awareness, weapon delivery, communications and aircraft navigation, monitoring and control, all of which are operated by the helicopter's two crew members.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Systems/Software Engineer to join our team, working alongside our Systems Engineering Manager to implement system requirements and design tasks as required. This role requires a flexible, team oriented and experienced engineer that enjoys a challenge and is willing to roll their sleeves up.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with the Systems Engineering Manager to plan, monitor, control and report all project engineering development, including:
  • Tailor engineering management plans;
  • Supervise software and hardware development;
  • Participate in change control board (CCB) activities; and
  • Ensure compliance with Quality Plans, project management plans and project standards.
  • Produce system level documentation and CDRLs as required by order contracts.
  • Develop a strong working relationship with the customer. Plan, coordinate and participate in internal and external reviews/workshops.
  • System and Software Requirements Analysis
  • Support development team as they develop requirements allocated to the software elements of the system and their interfaces;
  • Analyse software requirements for correctness and testability;
  • Evaluate the impact of software requirements on the operating environment;
  • Ensure consistency and traceability between the software requirements and system requirements; and
  • Develop and/or modify a system design that describes the system components that will satisfy the system requirements.
  • System and Software Architectural Design
  • Develop and baseline a software architectural design that describes the software items that will implement the software requirements;
  • Define internal and external interfaces of each software item; and
  • Establish consistency and traceability between software requirements and software design.
  • Software Detailed Design
  • Support development team as they develop a detailed design of each software component; and
  • Ensure consistency and traceability between the detailed design and the requirements and architectural design.
  • Analyse technical issues and problems to derive and present solutions consistent with the design philosophy of the system.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • More than 7 years’ experience in ISO12207 SDLC activities (includes system requirements, software requirements, user interface specifications, system and software design, construction, integration and verification)
  • Use of requirement analysis and management tools
  • Use of UML software design tools;
  • Use of software configuration management tools
  • Use of product/application lifecycle management tools
  • Work progress and estimation experience
  • Use of defect tracking systems

Experience Highly Desired

  • Familiarity with Australian Defence documentation and technical process requirements
  • Mentoring of less experienced system and software engineers
  • Experience with the development of high integrity/safety critical systems to applicable standards; Ability to interpret hardware drawings and specifications;
  • Experience in the delivery of formal reviews to customers and/or approving agencies
  • Experience using DOORS and Sparx Enterprise ArchitectExperience using Aras Innovator; Experience with Ada, and C++ software languages in a Linux development environment.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in software engineering, electrical engineering, information technology or related discipline.

Security Clearance

In order to be eligible for this position, candidates must have an active Australian Defence security clearance, or be eligible to obtain one; therefore candidates will need to be Australian Citizens.  This position also requires the candidate to be eligible to access ITAR information and material.
