CLIENT:

The company operates in a fast moving and innovative technology sector offering amongst other products POS, Touch Screen, Security and Mobility solutions. They focus on the seamless provision of technology solutions via expert advice, service and support.
 
Although the location of the role is situated in the Sydney office (Parramatta) you will work closely with the rest of the IT team in the overseas office and this will require occasional travel overseas and to the other offices around Australia.

 The Systems and Network Engineer role will also;  

  • take direction from the IT Systems Manager on specific projects & major tasks
  • work closely with the overseas based System Support Engineer and share the lead role depending on the project and technical skills required
  • be expected to become a “champion” for certain hardware devices or applications then train others in the team when deemed necessary (cross-skilling)

JOB:

Systems Support Engineer function:

  • Assist with management and maintenance of all server platforms & services such as Active Directory, DNS, Group Policy, Exchange, WSUS, RDS etc
  • Proactive monitoring of all server & system “health” status and perform appropriate tasks when required to ensure maximum uptime & stability
  • Monitor and manage security products being MailMarshal for SMTP server and Sophos for all servers & user machines
  • Manage our Microsoft updating service (WSUS) and review / approve updates on a regular basis
  • VMware changes and updating as required in consultation with IT Systems Manager & System Support Engineer (overseas)
  • Make changes to the companywide FortiGate unified threat management appliances or various network switches as needed
  • Monitor and manage the Panasonic phone system and any problems that arise
  • Monitor nightly FortiGate & network switch logs / reports for events or activity that might require further investigation and policy changes
  • Take full responsibility of server racks & network patch cabinets for all Australian offices
  • Ensure physical separation of security & service networks is maintained at all times
  • Mentor / train others in the IT team for cross skilling as needed
  • Create or update system specific documentation
  • Research and suggest new software & hardware that could be implemented to resolve a current problem / concern, enhance overall system performance or increase reliability / stability etc    
  • Undertake projects / tasks as designated by IT Systems Manager  

Desktop (User) Support function:

  • Provide user support for all IT hardware and software in use including installation & maintenance
  • Configure new desktop / laptop computers as needed including all software
  • Ensure all Remote Desktop Services (RDS) enquiries are dealt with urgency
  • Manage phone system requests (including desktop handset & headset)
  • Review, release or delete held emails within the MailMarshal server
  • Day to day monitoring & management of the centralised helpdesk system  

 
Experience:
 

  • A minimum of 5 years in various levels on a Desktop Support role prior to promotion into a Systems Engineering role
  • A minimum of 5 years Systems Engineering experience for a multi-site corporate environment (tertiary qualification helpful but not a necessity)
  • Excellent knowledge of most common Desktop Operating systems and Applications
  • Experience supporting PC hardware, standard application software and related peripherals
  • Exposure to Panasonic NS series phone system (including OneLook) would be great but not essential
  • Strong system / management / installation / administrative  experience of Server 2008+, Exchange Server 2010+, Active Directory, Remote Desktop Services etc
  • Very proficient in trouble-shooting and resolving systems / networking / software problems
  • Ability to work with a diverse user base, via telephone and onsite, and to achieve a high level of user satisfaction
  • Solid networking knowledge including configuration and management of networking devices such as routers, firewalls (UTM appliances), switches and wireless
  • Virtualisation installation and management experience (VMware or Hyper-V) Preferred Windows 7/10 support experience MS Office 2010 or above application support experience Remote Desktop Services (RDS) 
  • Active Directory configuration and management including DNS, Group Policy Exchange Server 2010 or above Server 2008 R2 or above SQL 2008 or above database administration  SharePoint 2010 FortiGate UTM appliances VMware vSphere 5.x or above
