Primary Accountability:

The Security Engineer is responsible for ensuring that subscribed customer and cloud security environments are maintained in accordance with contractual deliverables, meeting required Service Level Agreements (SLA).

The Security Engineer is responsible for the ongoing day to day security operational activities which include the implementation of security requests; basic project design involvement and installations; incident and problem management; ad-hoc reporting; and assisting Senior Security Engineers and Analysts as required.

The role is also expected to maintain effective and trusted relationships with key stakeholders within NEC and the customer, using these relationships to assist in driving the best possible outcome for the subscribed managed services.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Provide Incident response and resolution for security related tickets that includes, but not limited to; firewalls, proxy servers, intrusion detection / prevention, virtual private networks, cloud hosted systems and authentication services within the contracted SLA time.
  • Adhere to NEC change management process to analyse, plan and implement changes on customer infrastructure with no business impact.
  • Perform periodic security devices health check, backup and ensure integrity of weekly backups
  •  Incorporate relevant security reporting information and data to produce monthly reports per agreed schedules.
  • Use troubleshooting tools and techniques to diagnose and implement control actions as necessary to ensure availability including performance in terms of capacity, utilisation, and availability in accordance with relevant Service Level Agreements on security systems, services and devices.
  • Analyse traffic data and providing recommendations on performance improvements to security infrastructures as required. Complete software vulnerability assessments for customer security devices and services, and perform associated software upgrades and patching as required.
  • Testing, implementing, monitoring and tuning security software/hardware to ensure optimum systems performance and highlight potential issues. Create and maintain work instructions for security services and tasks, ensuring storage in relevant documentation library.
  • Automation of BAU processes and tasks where possible to minimize human error and manage time effectively.
  • Provide input as required to the security architects on proposed security designs.
  • Provide onsite assistance and support to customers and field staff in the resolution of system and application type faults as required.

Experience and Qualifications Required:

  • 3+ years' experience in a similar role;
  • Solid experience with IT security products via GUI and CLI;
  • Good understanding of regulations relating to technology risk, data privacy and security compliance;
  • Proven track record and experience in supporting information security devices and procedures;
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal and collaborative skills, and the ability to communicate security and risk-related concepts to technical and non-technical audiences;
  • High level of personal integrity, as well as the ability to professionally handle confidential matters;
  • Good analytical skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks, as well as the ability to work well in a demanding, dynamic environment and meet overall objectives;
  • Experience and ability to working effectively with industry partners and suppliers;
  • Ability to perform detailed design documentation when required.
  • Bachelor Degree of IT (Security preferred)
  • CCNA Security

Desirable:

  • ITIL Foundations qualification
  • Industry association or membership
  • SIEM knowledge / experience
