Senior Backend Engineer required by global start up which is at the cutting edge of technology. You will work in a dynamic, cross functional team with other front-end, backend, mobile and QA engineers. This organisation is truly Agile focusing on continuous improvement. You will be involved in daily standups, sprint planning, grooming, retros etc to find new and better ways to work now and in the future. The company ships code every two weeks, so you will need to love working in a fast paced environment!

You will work with a fantastic team of back end engineers who use Functional Programming, specifically Scala. They want to bring on a Senior Back End Engineer who can add weight technically and potentially step up into a leadership role. To thrive in this position, you will need to be customer focused, enjoy shipping code regularly and love working in cross-functional software teams which requires you to take on different tasks and responsibilities.

Essential skills

• Extensive experience building server side applications ideally using Scala or functional programming languages.
• Alternatively, a highly talented software engineer who is exceptionally proficient in Java (ideally Java 8) or Open Source OOP languages who would love to learn Scala
• Proven experience of using Computer Science principles including data structures, design patterns, and algorithms to solve complex problems and promote the automation of basic tasks
• Worked in environments hosted in the Cloud (AWS, Azure or Google Cloud) with an understanding of the importance of contributing to the CI/CD pipeline, and automating as much as possible
• You will be a back end engineer who also considers themselves full stack because they run cross functional feature teams so you must be willing and able to pick up frontend or mobile tickets to help get the feature shipped
