Versent is looking for an experienced technical leader to support the delivery of key streams of work we have on the go. You will be working with everything new and established within the AWS ecosystem and more, as we partner with our customers to lead their technology transformation.

The Principal Engineer - AWS / DevOps enables Versent's senior technical team to develop their skill and guide others.

Empowering Artisans to stay in their Craft: Often, in large companies, people in technology that are excellent at what they can achieve technically, must divorce from the tools to progress in their careers - At Versent we want to reverse this trend and keep people that are artisans at what they do - in their craft!

Cross-Domain Expertise: Often, on large engagements there are enough domains / disciplines (e.g. API, Microservices, Security, Cloud, DevOps etc.) that a senior engineer who has worked across a bunch of these projects / disciplines bring a strength and focus that supports the remaining team members to align their delivery to the overall outcome.

Technical Noise Reduction: A lot of our clients are noisy, and/or employ noisy; architects, 'big-devs' (a colloquial term for devs who feel that every problem can be solved with a line of code), and technology zealots (people wedded to certain tooling / architectures / 'ways') who can cause severe noise that can hamper our team's ability to deliver efficiently. As such, the PE is someone who remains technically close to the action (still hands on keys) and who possesses strong communication skills to have sensible conversations, refute rumour and innuendo with facts and data to lower the technical noise.

As such, our Principal Engineers play a partner 'buddy' style role, alongside our Principal Consultants to fulfil customer outcomes, with a stronger focus on working day-to-day with the remainder of the multi-functional technical team members.

Our Principal Engineers exhibit the following behavious;

• Ability to change and enact change with customers
• Work with engineers on clean, testable, repeatable code
• They are disciplined in the way they work
• They are direct and authentic in their communication
• They are always learning & developing their technical skills
• Are proactive and predictive for not only the current iteration's deliverables, but the next iteration(s) as well.

People wanting to become Principal Engineers at Versent have the following skills;

• Background and demonstrable experience mastering two (or more) of Versent's core disciplines (e.g. API gateway config, Microservices, Security, Cloud, DevOps etc.)
• Understanding what getting something done done looks like (doc, testing, continuous improvement of process)
• Have experience with the AWS ecosystem (Primarily S3, DynamoDB/RDS, etc...)
• Can take a pull request and provide meaningful feedback on their team's contributions: Understands and follows consistent code styling guidelines (linting or simliar)
