If the answer is 'yes', you could be suited to one of the Army's most demanding roles. That of Commando.
Highly intensive training will equip you with the mental and physical resources to operate in a variety of challenging operational settings.
You will be trained for tasks beyond the range of other Australian Defence Force units, which may include precision strike and direct action missions and special recovery operations. You'll also support Army domestic activities, including exercises and operations, with the potential to deploy overseas in support of Australian and coalition personnel.
You will learn to use specialist weapons, equipment and tactics, and develop adrenaline-pumping skills in parachuting, roping, helicopter extraction, demolition and heavy weapons. You'll acquire advanced survival skills and the ability to carry out complex and dangerous missions, which could be anywhere in the world.
As a Commando, you’ll also be trained to:
- employ a range of advanced weapon systems
- fight at close quarters
- participate in fighting patrols in both urban and rural operations
- destroy targets using explosives
- parachute onto land or into water
- embark and disembark from amphibious craft
- ascend and descend vertical obstacles using military roping and caving techniques
- operate advanced communications equipment
- conduct airborne rappelling and fast roping, and conduct close personal protection to high ranking military and government ministers in war-like situations.

Entry Requirements
- At least 17 years of age
- Australian Citizen
- Year 10 completion with passes in English and Maths
If you do not have the required passes you may be eligible to sit an Alternative Education Equivalency assessment. Medical and fitness guidelines also apply.
