Company 

This family owned, and operated operation is located approximately 2 hours North of Alice Springs, in the Ti Tree Basin precinct. An area which is considered to be of enormous significance in future Northern Territory horticultural development. 

Included in their aggregation is a 1,000ha farm with 6 new Centre Pivots which are currently irrigating 70ha of Rhodes Grass and Cereal Hay. The second farm is 2,000ha in size and is currently running 200 breeding cows and their progeny. Both farms are currently being redeveloped as large-scale intensive horticultural enterprises with the goal of producing high digestibility and protein feed for the domestic cattle feeding market. Further development opportunities including a cattle feedlot and different crops are also being considered.

Position 

Due to the current Farm Manager planning to retire in late 2018, The Client is looking for an enthusiastic, passionate and mechanically minded Manager to join the business and help drive efficiencies and future development.

Working closely with the Owner and initially with the current Farm Manager, the Farm Development Manager will be directly responsible in a hands-on capacity for all day-to-day operations of the cattle production enterprise, the irrigation & cropping programs and farm development plans. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Hands-on involvement with all “on the ground” day-to-day activities of the irrigation, haymaking and livestock enterprises
  • Staff management and the operation of farm machinery
  • Achieve production goals, increase production performance and optimise productivity
  • Assist the Owner in setting the strategic direction and the annual farm plan and budget for the properties to ensure sustainable profitability
  • Schedule and implement farm capital developments in line with development plans and budgets

Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience in a day-to-day farm management or supervising role on a mixed farming enterprise is essential
  • Centre Pivot operations experience is preferred
  • Livestock experience essential
  • Advanced mechanical repairs & maintenance skills and record keeping ability
  • Experience with leadership, motivation and team management of staff and contractors

Qualifications

  • Current unrestricted Driver’s Licence is essential
  • Current Chemical Handler’s accreditation
