Our Client
Our client is a large horticulture company which specialises in potatoes and onions, with major cropping areas and processing and packing facilities throughout Australia. Over the years they have developed a reputation for high standards of horticultural crop production, supported by an experienced professional agronomy team. They have a number of production sites located in South Australia. The company is expanding rapidly and requires either graduate or skilled agronomists to become part of their great team environment.
Reporting to the Head Agronomist, you will benefit from the commercial training provided, to enhance your career opportunities within the business.
Role
This role will work together with the farm management team and Head Agronomist to develop and implement crop monitoring strategies and methods. From these plans and information you will provide expert advice to drive sustainable farming practices and profitable crop production. You will use the latest technologies to assist you in your work, and if necessary you will be mentored and assisted to develop your skills and knowledge.
Duties
To be successful you will ideally have:
- Degree or equivalent in Agriculture and/or horticulture
- Practical crop production experience in either broadacre agriculture or horticulture
- Working knowledge of the use of agricultural chemicals, fertilizers/ plant nutrition, crop varieties and irrigation
- High level internal and external communication skills, perhaps developed from management exposure
- Experience with project planning, taking projects through to completion
- Computer skills
You will be an open minded, team player who is keen and prepared to develop through your own effort, supported by a successful group. You may currently be a working Farm Manager and looking to refine your commercial experience; or alternatively have existing commercial experience and seeking exposure to other aspects of the Ag/ Hort industry supply chain. Or you may be a recent graduate in agronomy looking for an outstanding team environment with experienced and leading edge mentoring to really super-charge your career advancement.
