About the business and the role
We are a sub-tropical dairy farm producing milk from a growing herd of cows. We market our fresh milk direct to our wholesale customers using our own milk tanker.
We are a team of skilled and enthusiastic farmers who enjoy the satisfaction of growing healthy calves and cows, enough fodder for the herd and producing quality milk. We grow pastures and silage year-round and use pivot and hard hose systems.
Our work rosters includes a share of early morning starts (4.30am) and weekends with 4 days off per fortnight or 2 days off on weekly basis.
Job tasks and responsibilities
Farm team participation.
Patience and care of animals.
Perform farming tasks such as monitor reproductive performance of the herd, select cows for AI, complete mating and record keeping associated.
Milk harvesting
Tractor and fencing work.
Breeding for milk herd growth is the primary focus of this role and works in with four other team members on farm. This job answers to the Assistant Farm Manager.
Skills and experience
To be successful for this role you must:
- Have qualifications in dairy farming (or related industry or working towards);
- Have experience in milking and care of calves;
- Artificial Insemination (AI),
- Tractor and feed-out experience would be an advantage;
- Must demonstrate a commitment to WH&S requirements;
- High Risk Work Licence (forklift operation) preferred, but not essential; and
- Truck licence preferred, but not essential;
