FARM OPERATIONS SUPERVISOR

AT LEADING THOROUGHBRED STUD. SCONE.

Ross Watson Agriculture is the leading agronomy and farm management consulting company based in Scone, that services many of the leading agricultural and equine properties in the region. At present , one of our leading thoroughbred stud clients is looking to employ a Farm Operations Supervisor near Scone, in NSW.

The Company.

Our client, is one of Australia`s leading thoroughbred breeding and racing operations, located about 10 km east of Scone , the horse capital of Australia. The property is around 850 ha in area, which comprises of 250 ha of dedicated thoroughbred stud farm area, which supports highly improved irrigated pastures, 100 ha of irrigated Lucerne hay /silage production and 500 ha of  improved and semi improved pasture for an Angus steer trading operation.

Role and Responsibilities

As Farm Operations Supervisor, you will be required to work as part of a farm management team , with your primary function to service the thoroughbred studs operations and maintenance requirement, through close and cooperative communications with the Stud Manager. You will also have a secondary role in supervising and servicing the beef cattle and Lucerne hay operations.

You will 

·        Work with and manage the daily work programs and safety of an additional 3-4 farm and grounds staff ,

·        Operate and service the significant travelling irrigation (large Hard Hose  irrigators) systems throughout the farm.

·        Implement pasture, crop and farm management programs under specific instructions from our Consulting Agronomist.

·        Carry out basic maintenance and servicing of our  modern group of farm machinery  , equipment and farm vehicles.

·        Carry out the basic maintenance requirements of our network of  farm buildings and houses.

·        Coordinate a range of service providers and contractors to complete key projects and servicing requirements.

Requirements.

·        Proven ability to work as part of a management team and practical farm operations skills.

·        Previous farm operations experience on thoroughbred stud desirable but not essential.

·        Clear ability to communicate with other key staff and the management team.

·        Proven ability to manage a small group of farm and garden staff, as well as arrange contractors as required.

·        Full understanding and practical skills in the operation and servicing of travelling irrigation systems, farm machinery operation and general  farm maintenance.

·        Ability to implement and complete , all pasture development and farm management programs, under specific direction of Consulting Agronomist, servicing the property.

·        Previous experience in pasture establishment and management as well as practical experience in Irrigated Lucerne hay production, desirable .

·        Experience with the management and handling of  beef cattle.

·        Current drivers licence with no restrictions essential. Rigid truck licence desirable.

·        Competent with computers, budgeting, farm record keeping and reporting.

·        Chemical application and handling experience and  current Chemical Users Accreditation essential. Other farm safety certificates desirable.

·        Have good experience with the implementation and supervision of all OHS requirements .

Package.

The client will be offering a very attractive package which will include

·        salary range $75,000-$85,000  p.a. plus Superannuation.
