Our client is a family run, mixed farming operation that’s been in the area for 50 years. (3rd generation farmers) Currently run as a single man operation with seasonal labour / contractors.
 
Enterprise

  • Mixed farming enterprise – two irrigation properties 1750 ha  3400 ha of grazing country leased.
  • Located: 22 km from Moulamein NSW, South West Riverina
  • Operation includes: Merino sheep for wool and fat lamb production 3000 head self-replacing merino flock, includes 100 head AI program with expansion planned
  • Fodder conservation / on farm hay production 200 ha of irrigated pasture. 200 ha of Rice / summer cropping  Opportunistic winter cereals – 200 ha Ideally 4000 megs of water used annually.  

 
Job Description

  • Full time assistant farm manager or equivalent
  • Expectation will be 2500 hours annually – average of 50 hours per week.
  • Employee must be flexible in relation to work hours / availability due to seasonal nature of business.
  • To work with manager and contractors.
  • To understand all aspects of farming operation and be able to provide valuable input, advice and feedback.
  • To be able to take over day to day running in absence of manager.
  • Hands on position – employee must be physically and mentally fit with ability to work alone.
  • Must be able to undertake all farm maintenance, livestock processing and management (excluding shearing) be machinery competent (ground preparation through to harvest).
  • Be telephone and computer literate, with competent communication skills.  

 
Skill criteria

  • Sheep experience - essential
  • Cropping experience – essential
  • Machinery maintenance – essential Irrigation experience – essential
  • Rice experience – desirable but not essential.
  • Would prefer someone with a trade or tertiary qualification – desirable but not essential. (applicant will not be overlooked if they come with strong background / experience)
  • Drivers licence – essential
  • Chemical users – essential
  • Truck, motorbike and gun licence – desirable but not essential
  • Time management skills – essential

  • Willing to re-locate and live in a small community that has a flourishing community of young children and families.
  • Prefer a rural background, but not essential
  • Must be open to mentorship from manager
  • Be able to get along with owner’s family, be a mate.
