Metro Trains operates and maintains Melbourne’s busy suburban train network. Successfully transporting over 400 000 passengers per day is achieved by our large dedicated workforce. The Infrastructure Division is at the forefront of maintaining and renewing our network and is currently seeking a Reserve Vegetation Officer to join the Infrastructure Team. 

 

Position purpose:


Responsible for ensuring the network and estate we present are; safe; comply with legislation and regulations; and conform aesthetically and in style to the presentation set down in MTM policy. Required to liaise with in-house staff, sub-contractors and other stakeholders to ensure and understand the requirements and subsequent compliance is achieved.

 

Key responsibilities:
 

• Devise strategies and innovations to reduce the vegetation infringements on the network
• Monitor and supervise online track spray programme in accordance with workplace procedures and standards, HS&E and Rail Safety Regulations.
• Monitor and supervise reserve maintenance in accordance with workplace procedures and standards, HS&E and Rail Safety Regulations.
• Ensure all maintenance under a plan or contractual agreement is being conducted in accordance with legislation, regulation and assessed risk
• Ensure in-house staff, sub-contractors and stakeholders are made aware to vegetation program requirements
• Ensure the network and estate conforms aesthetically and in style to the presentation set down in MTM vegetation programs by way of indicative sample based audit and follow-up corrective action
• Ensure the rail network, estate and facilities we present are safe and do not present a risk to the environment for the intended purpose
• Ensure there are no reported incidents of safety, uncontrolled noxious vegetation or security risks as a result of the presentation of the network, estate or facilities

Qualifications, skills and experience:

• Track Force Protection Co-Ordinator 3.1 minimum. (Track Force Protection Co-Ordinator 3.2 desirable)
• Chainsaw Operations & Safety Ticket
• Certificate II (or higher) in Australian Land Conservation & Restoration. Certified Training in Weed ID and Control
• Current Drivers Licence
• Must be prepared to work Day / Night Shift as required
• Be prepared to work reasonable overtime and attend after hour emergencies when required
• Good literacy and numeracy skills to identify and comprehend safe-working and work instructions
