This well-established, local business has operated in the horticultural industry for over 50 years supplying both the domestic and international market with quality fruit and vegetables. Based in the heart of the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area (MIA), this company takes pride in the quality of their produce, and as such has seen an increase in demand for their produce. With a newly established almond orchard, an Orchard Manager is required to grow the business.
Position
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, this is an excellent opportunity to step into an industry leading company and demonstrate your “hands-on” capability. As Orchard Manager you will manage a small team of Farm Hands to implement all day-to-day operational activities across this newly established orchard.
The challenge of this role will be managing the overall operations of the orchard to optimise yield and produce almonds at the lowest sustainable cost.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and implement orchard activities
- Ensure farm management records are accurately captured and reported
- Optimise yields by proactively responding to tree health and pests and disease
- Lead and support the team in achieving performance and safety goals
- Train the team to deliver operational and strategic plans
- Manage irrigation infrastructure, buildings and equipment
Skills and Experience
- Extensive experience managing irrigated tree crops
- Previous experience in large-scale orchard operations
- Strong leadership abilities and communication skills
- Computer literacy
- Formal qualifications in agriculture / horticulture (highly regarded)
