Detail information about job NDIS Peer to Peer Mentor. Terms and conditions vacancy

Workways Australia is a large, dynamic not-for-profit organisation operating across Victoria, New South Wales, ACT and Queensland. We are fully committed to our vision of engaged communities; connecting people to opportunities and provide a range of employment and community services to work towards this vision. We are excited to commence trial of NDIS employment and employment related supports in 2018 in the Wollongong, Shellharbour and Kiama LGAs and are looking for paid casual peer to peer mentors to ‘buddy’ with younger NDIS participants.

Peer to peer mentors will have lived experience of disability. They will be professional, but friendly. Their support focus will be on supporting younger people with disability to build their confidence, share their experiences of disability, and find opportunities in the community to demonstrate greater voice and build relationships outside of paid supports. They may also support with participant transition to higher education. They will want to do activities with the participant that have a purpose.

Mentors will work in the participant’s home and in the community with the participant first and foremost but will also have great relationships with family members and other community members. Their vision will be the same as ours; a world where people with disability are fully included in Australian society with a range of strong relationships in their lives which extend beyond paid supports.

Primary Objective of the Role
NDIS Peer to Peer Mentors have lived experience of disability. They want to support younger NDIS participants to have greater confidence and higher expectations around what’s possible in terms of independence, community inclusion and employment.

Peer to Peer Mentors deliver flexible, individual support in the community or in the participant’s home as required. Mentors are a buddy for the young NDIS participant; a safe person they can confide in and share experiences with. A successful peer to peer mentor is friendly, but professional and responsible. They are a role model for young people. They value all young people with a disability having a voice in our community.
