The Role:

If you're looking to make a positive difference to the health and wellbeing of others in your community, then join our great team of NewAccess coaches!

NewAccess is a free mental health coaching program, helping people to better cope with anxiety and depression by providing early one-on-one support.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander NewAccess Coach to be based in Inner Sydney.

To become a NewAccess Coach, you do not need a formal qualification. All you need is a passion for supporting the social and emotional wellbeing needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples!

As an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander NewAccess Coach you will:
  • Build your professional development by completing 6 weeks of Low Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) training (this is fully funded by the program)
  • Provide one-on-one coaching (via phone, skype or face-to-face) to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who are experiencing mild to moderate anxiety and/or depression
  • Offer tools and strategies to encourage people to better manage their symptoms of anxiety and/or depression and improve their social and emotional wellbeing
  • Engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members to support program referrals and ongoing community engagement
  • Work with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community to make culturally safe improvements to the program

Role specifics:
  • Full term contract until April 2019 (with potential for extension).
  • Working hours are full time, 9am - 5pm Monday to Friday (flexible hours can be negotiated).
  • Ongoing training provided (including paid 6 weeks of Low Intensity CBT training)
  • An attractive salary with access to salary packaging, in a friendly and supportive work environment

About you:
  • A willingness to continue professional development and learn new skills
  • A passion to deliver culturally appropriate support services
  • Experience in working within community based organisations
  • Experience in building positive relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities and agencies
  • Experience in responding to and managing sensitive situations
  • A warm and clear communicator
  • Ability to work with empathy, motivation and as part of a team
  • Bolton Clarke considers that being an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person is a genuine occupational qualification under s 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).
