About the Role

We are currently seeking an experienced Respite Care Assistant to join our team on a part time contract until 30 June 2019, with the possibility of extension dependent on funding. This role is to provide care and support to clients which increase their ability to live as autonomously as possible. The program operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on a roster basis. Duties of this role include:

  • Provide care and support to the clients of the program, including implementation of individualised care plans, personal care, daily living skills, medication, activities for clients;
  • Assist with the personal care of male clients;
  • Work as part of a team to prepare and provide person centred activities for clients which are engaging and have purpose;
  • Ensure clients are empowered to make decisions and focus on maintaining client independence in a secure environment;
  • Communicate effectively with clients, carers & staff;
  • Ensure that accurate record keeping and quality assurance processes are undertaken, including progress notes, care plans and activity sheets;
  • Assist in the kitchen, preparing and serving meals and clearing and washing up afterwards;
  • Report any changing client behaviours to appropriate staff;
  • Assist with some cleaning duties at conclusion of daily program;

 Skills and Experience

  • Minimum Certificate III in Aged Care;
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Willingness to learn and develop skills in the provision of Aged Care (dementia) and Montessori principles;
  • A developing understanding of the issues and concerns of carers and an appreciation of their needs;
  • Ability to carry out day to day household duties, as required including washing, cleaning, cooking and physical activity;
  • Good organisational skills, with an ability to work under direction as a member of a team;
  • Current First Aid Certificate;
  • Current driver's license;
  • Current Working with Vulnerable People registration and National Police Check, or the ability to obtain.
