About the opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for an Accommodation Support Worker to join our Supporting Homeless Individuals and Families in Transition (SHIFT) team based in Ringwood.  Full time work, with maximum term contract for twelve (12) months. 

  

The SHIFT program

  • Aims to break the cycle of homelessness
  • Assists families and individuals experiencing housing crisis with an emphasis on supporting young families and/or family violence.
  • Provides advocacy and support

 Your varied and active days will include:

  • Supporting families who are experiencing homelessness as a result of multiple complexities
  • Working with Transitional Housing providers and the Office of Housing to find suitable, appropriate long term housing options
  • Providing outreach case management support to individuals/families residing in transitional properties
  • Provision of AOF program to assist individuals and families to establish and maintain tenancies in the private rental market.
  • Using creativity and innovation to engage clients reluctant to accept support 
  • Building rapport and working with strengths
  • Working with your supervisor and team to discuss housing options and alternatives
  • Working within a case management model to address support needs and achieve goals

About you

To be successful in your application you will meet the Person Specification in the Position Description attached, including having a relevant tertiary qualification in a Social Work or Psychology related field.

  • List your tertiary level qualifications in Social Work, Psychology or a related field.
  • Outline briefly your relevant experience working with families and/or individuals experiencing homelessness and your interest in working in the accommodation support team with Uniting at this time.
  • Summarise your knowledge and experience in the provision of housing support services, including knowledge of SHIP, public housing policies and issues related to tenancy, family law and other legislative requirements.
  • Summarise your knowledge of a range of theoretical approaches and frameworks relevant to working with individuals and families with complex needs.
  • Describe your knowledge and skills in working with Family Violence, including safety planning.
