Essential Criteria

  • Aboriginal person with strong connection to the local Aboriginal Community
  • Diploma in Community Services (or equivalent) 
  • 3-5 years experience in program coordination and provision in a community services environment  
  • Knowledge of the principles of Targeted Earlier Intervention (TEI) reform and experience with the reporting requirements for FaCS 
  • Passion for the community, families, children and young people 
  • Good computer skills, knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint  
  • Excellent communication skills 

Position Description

The role is to coordinate the services and activities at Watanobbi Community Centre on a day to day basis, for Wyong Neighbourhood Centre. Up to 32 hours/week negotiable/flexible (up to the 32 hours).

The candidate, would be required to:

  • Create and maintain a vibrant and lively community hub 
  • Coordinate information and referral services 
  • Recruit and train volunteers for reception and service provision 
  • Manage and supervise staff and volunteers working within the centre 
  • Manage physical office spaces and storage spaces - keep organised, clean and uncluttered 
  • Coordinate activities targeting families, young people, children, indigenous community and disadvantaged members of community - includes sourcing and creating new activities 
  • Plan events and activities that provide an opportunity for the wider community to attend WCC and access information about WNC 
  • Establish and maintain partnerships and collaborations with other local services 
  • Work closely with Wyong Neighbourhood Centre Manager to adequately staff and resource Watanobbi Community Centre 
  • Work with the Promotions, Fundraising and Marketing Officer to develop sponsorship programs to support disadvantaged individuals and families to access fee or service activities 
  • Attend any FaCS TEI Reform meetings or information sessions 
  • Collect data for reporting purposes and enter data into reporting tool provided by FaCS 
  • Conduct regular consultations with community members and other key stakeholders to determine the needs of the community and service users 
  • Written report (monthly) to the Management Committee on the activities, outcomes, requests for equipment etc for the Watanobbi Centre 
  • Contribute to the Stategic Plan for Wyong Neighbourhood Centre with specific respect to Watanobbi Community Centre 
  • Meet weekly with the manager to plan, discuss outcomes and service gaps for WCC   
  • Attend staff meetings and contribute to the activity plans for the organisation as a whole 
  • Attend relevant networks and meetings 
  • Attend Events and activities organised by PYSS and WNC if required 
  • Develop activity plans and budgets that adequately reflect the benefits and costs to the community and the organisation 

About Us

Wyong Neighbourhood Centre Inc. is funded by the Department of Family & Community Services to provide information and referral to families and individuals experiencing disadvantage or hardship. We operate from two sites. The Old Wyong School Community Centre and the Watanobbi Community Centre. Both sites offer assisted referrals to relevant specialist services, social and support groups and activities for people of all age groups.

FaCS also provides funding for a Youth Support Service that operates from Lake Haven Gravity Centre. Young people are supported with advice and referral, case management, mentoring and group activities.

The organisation also receives funding from the Department of Social Services to deliver Emergency Relief which includes food, chemist and fuel vouchers, Opal cards, food hampers and other financial supports.

In addition, the centre offers Energy vouchers (EAPA) to help members maintain their energy supply when they are experiencing financial hardship.

People come to Wyong Neighbourhood Centre because it is a welcoming and friendly service staffed by trained and experienced community workers and volunteers.

    Annual Leave may be taken anytime during the year with the centre only closing for 1 to 2 weeks over the Christmas period where staff may take leave or work through the closure period.

    All Public Holidays that fall on a normal working day are paid but staff are not required to work.

    Both sites are close to shops, public transport and other amenities.
