Status: Full time, 38 hours per week (5 days).

NDS is the national industry association for disability services, representing approximately 1,100 non-government service providers. Collectively, our members operate several thousand services for Australians with all types of disability. NDS’s members range in size from small support groups to large multi-service organisations, and are located in every State and Territory across Australia.

Background:

The disability sector is experiencing a period of high growth and transformation with the transition to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).  The development of the sector’s capacity and its workforce is integral to its ongoing effectiveness and growth.  As a part of NDS’s solutions for the disability sector we have established a Learning and Development practice aimed at offering service providers and individuals high quality training and performance development solutions.

Position Overview:

An opportunity exists for an experienced and passionate learning and development professional to grow the Learning and Development (L&D) solution and build on its considerable foundations.  This role will be responsible for the direction of the vision for the national L&D practice from the ground up, creating new content and implementing a range of delivery methodologies.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute the national L&D strategy for NDS;
  • Ensure the commercial viability of the L&D practice;
  • Direct and lead the development of L&D content and solutions in conjunction with NDS sector development teams and other internal departments nationally;
  • Identify and pursue funding opportunities through government and philanthropic institutions;
  • Build relationships with disability service providers, with a view to developing a broad distribution and delivery network nationally;
  • Partner with Human Resources (HR), L&D and business leads within the sector to develop and implement uniquely tailored learning programs;
  • Identify sector issues and market trends and stay abreast of contemporary L&D approaches;
  • Develop partnerships with tertiary institutions and colleges for the development and delivery of content specific to the disability sector;
  • Manage all operational aspects of L&D delivery including budgets and schedules;
  • Oversee the implementation of business processes to ensure an optimal customer experience and efficient and productive internal processes;
  • Provide direction and management to staff, ensuring their development through effective mentoring;
  • Report regularly on project outcomes and finances;
  • Other duties as required.

Key Attributes:

  1. Minimum 5 years L&D experience in a management capacity, preferably within the social services sector;
  2. Experience in leading commercial negotiations with external parties;
  3. Exposure to eLearning and LMS tools;
  4. Excellent relationship-building and influencing skills, with a proven ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels (internal and external);
  5. Demonstrated creative approach to content development and delivery;
  6. Demonstrated experience and proven capability in the management of large and complex projects delivered on time, on budget and against Key Performance Indicators;
  7. Highly-developed written and oral communication skills, including the ability to write clear and accurate reports as well as to present effectively to  various audiences;
  8. Proven experience leading a team;
  9. Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office Suite; and
  10. Independent travel capability.
