About the Opportunity

 

The primary purpose of this role is to work with a variety of disciplines to deliver psychological assessment, therapeutic interventions and professional services to FACS client groups including children, young people, families and carers. Provide specialist consultation to staff and managers and assist in the development of therapeutic case plans.

 

FACS Psychologists are considered to be Therapeutic Specialists who are clinical experts in trauma informed therapeutic care. Therapeutic Specialists are considered to be behaviour support experts whose role is to guide assessment, develop and monitor treatment plans, equip staff through training and reflective practice sessions and collect data on outcomes.

  

There are multiple ongoing (O), temporary (T), full-time (FT) and part-time (PT) roles in accordance with the Government Sector Employment Act 2013.  All temporary appointments will be for a minimum of up to two (2) years with the possibility of extension.

 

The roles are located in Auburn (OFT), Windsor (TFT to 2020), Strawberry Hills (TPT to 2020), Parramatta (OFT and TFT to 2020) and Penrith (TFT to 2020).

 

A Recruitment Pool may be created to fill similar roles for both ongoing and temporary opportunities if and as they arise.

 

The successful applicant must have a valid drivers licence and be willing to travel.

To be successful in this role, you will need

  • Tertiary qualifications in Psychology and at minimum general registration (or eligibility for provisional registration) with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA).
  • Knowledge of theoretical and therapeutic frameworks that underpin assessment and intervention in the context of child abuse and neglect, the legal and ethical issues in providing forensic psychological services, children’s mental health including assessment and support strategies for carers.
  • Knowledge of strengths and limitations of standardised and non-standardised psychological testing, questionnaires and rating scales, behavioural intervention techniques, evidence-based therapeutic techniques, the general framework in relation to the Care and Protection Policy and Procedures, cultural issues relating to parenting, child-rearing and child development, child neuropsychology, and appropriate services available to meet the assessed needs of the child
  • The ability to perform clinical work that includes emotional, cognitive, behavioural and therapeutic assessment and the development of treatment plans.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work as a member of a specialised team to provide regular reports to internal and external stakeholders.

The Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012 requires persons engaged in children related work to have Working with Children clearances.
