Are you interested in being a part of an important team fostering relationships and links with Community and Families? You will be required to advise on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families in Cross Cultural Context and Culturally Linguistically Diverse families in a culturally safe environment. Enable holistic outcomes for children and families, and encourage a service integrated approach with programs and agencies.

Where you come in:

In this full-time permanent position, based in our Mount Isa office, you will report to the Service Sector Integration Coordinator. You will use your cultural awareness to ensure that our programs, including the Family and Child Connect, Intensive Family Support and Domestic and Family Violence programs are culturally appropriate. Our programs span the Gulf of Carpentaria, so you will collaborate with staff based in remote communities and travel will be required.

You will make an impact by:

  • Providing cultural inductions, advice and training to staff
  • Fostering relationships and links with key identified Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders
  • Encouraging and partaking in a service integrated approach between programs and organisations and key representatives
  • Assisting staff to engage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in a culturally safe manner
  • Supporting staff engaging with Culturally Linguistically Diverse families in culturally safe environment

Your highly developed cultural awareness and sensitivity, partnered with excellent communication skills, will enable you to expand on your community networks and build lasting relationships. This role requires:

  • Excellent cultural awareness and knowledge of protocols and practices, from working experience or existing connections with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities
  • Computer and data entry skills for reporting purposes
  • Ability to contribute to culturally safe case management planning, risk assessments and safety planning
  • Some travel between Mt Isa, Gulf and Inland Communities
  • Cert III in Community Services or equivalent or willingness to attain
  • Driver's licence
