UNSW Medicine is a national leader in learning, teaching and research, with close affiliations to a number of Australia’s finest hospitals, research institutes and health care organisations. With a strong presence at UNSW Kensington campus, the faculty have staff and students in teaching hospitals in Sydney as well as regional and rural areas of NSW including Albury/Wodonga, Wagga Wagga, Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie.

The School of Psychiatry is widely reputed as the pre-eminent psychiatric research department in the country, and one of the leading university groups internationally. There are three government-funded Dementia Centre for Research Collaboration (DCRC) hubs. This position will be within the School of Psychiatry, faculty of Medicine, the other two hubs are located within the Faculty of Science UNSW and the Queensland University of Technology. The DCRC consists of a multi-disciplinary team and each of the three hubs also supports collaborative research projects through partner institutions. The DCRC offers established collaborations with internationally recognised research partners in Australia and overseas and a dynamic and collaborative work environment.

The Research Associate, in partnership with the Centre Directors and KT Fellows from the other 2 DCRC hubs, will facilitate development of an overarching KT strategy for the DCRC and specifically for this hub, KT about behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia. In addition, this role will work closely with DCRC researchers to identify potential opportunities for Knowledge Translation in new and ongoing project.

This role reports to the Centre Director, School of Psychiatry hub and has no direct reports.

ABOUT THE ROLE

  • $73-96K plus 9.5% superannuation and leave loading
  • Fixed Term for 12 months from date of appointment.
  • Part-Time

RESPONSIBILITIES

Specific responsibilities for this role include:

• Work with DCRC researchers to identify project outputs that are “KT ready” • Liaise with the KT Fellows within the other DCRC hubs to develop an overarching strategy for the Centre

• Develop KT strategies, implementation and KT research opportunities specifically regarding behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia.

• Identify opportunities for collaboration with new and old networks on KT-related activities

• Contribute expertise to the preparation of new projects and research applications for new funding

• Contribute to the day to day running of the DCRC website and social media channels

• Contribute to the development of a digital strategy for the DCRC in partnership with Centre Directors, other KT Fellows and key stakeholders

• Contribute to team building and culture at the DCRC

• Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor

• Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of yourself or others.

SELECTION CRITERIA

• Completed or nearly completed PhD degree in Psychology or related subject and or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of education, training and/or and experience

• Experience or demonstrated relevant expertise in science communication

• Demonstrated experience or interest in knowledge translation and knowledge transfer including implementation of research findings and research into KT.

• Experience in research and/or clinical exposure related to ageing and or dementia is highly desirable.

• Demonstrated ability to form positive sustainable relationships with key stakeholders

• Demonstrated time management skills with the proven ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

• Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills, including the capacity to liaise with internal and external stakeholders, and produce clear reports and documentation for a variety of audiences

• Highly developed computer skills particularly with Microsoft office suite.

• Experience in digital marketing, including social media, in a health/science context

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team and independently with people from diverse backgrounds.

• Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training
