Scope of role

We are thrilled to announce the opening of our fantastic new purpose built Early Learning and Kindergarten in Langwarrin, which has been designed to trigger imagination and engage curious minds to support the development of babies to 4-year-old Kindergarten.  Our wonderful new Langwarrin early learning centre is Situated on Union Road in leafy Langwarrin.

Platypus Junction is looking for a person who is willing to go above and beyond the kitchen. Cooks are an integral part of an early learning environment so we are looking for someone who has a passion for the early years and is looking for a role that engages children and families.

There will be opportunities for you to immerse yourself in the program by assisting with cooking and meal sharing opportunities with the children, educators and families.

The Cook will ensure menus are nutritionally balanced, and have knowledge of special dietary needs, allergies and family requirements. 

You will need to demonstrate excellent record keeping and organisation skills, along with ensuring the kitchen functions within the parameters of all health and safety regulatory requirements.Support the health and wellbeing of the children through planning and preparing nutritious meals and snacks.

Prepare meals to meet the needs of children with special dietary requirements and allergies.

Order food supplies in consultation with Centre Director. Ensure safe and hygienic storage, handling and preparation of food and drinks. Work as part of a team to create a safe, caring and educational place for children.

Essential Criteria:

  • Hold relevant Food Handling and above, and have experience cooking meals within a child care centre or similar environment
  • Hold current first aid certifications
  • Experience cooking meals in an early years or similar environment with menu planning
  • Experience in seasonal, culturally diverse, healthy and nutritious menu planning
  • Working With Children Check
  • Responsible for reviewing and planning seasonal menu plans in liaison with the leadership team.

Essential criteria will be used to select successful candidates for the purpose of a formal interview.

Candidates who are selected for an interview will be required to present a 2 week menu plan for discussion on the day.

Interested in understanding whether they have had experience in caring for and growing their own vegetable garden, and engaging children in the process.
