About the role

Early Childhood Education staff are accountable for assisting the Co-ordinator in the day to day running of the child care service and for assisting in overseeing the planning, programming and implementing of a caring learning environment for the children and for ensuring that the needs of the parents are adequately met.

Council currently has the following 3 positions available:

1 x Permanent Full-Time

1 x Temporary Full-Time (up to 12 months - maternity relief position)

1 x Temporary Part-Time (Fridays 7 hours p/day 8.30am - 3.30pm) Responsible Person up to 21 December 2018

$49,989 p.a - $55,178 p.a + super

Key duties

  • Providing input into programs to meet the physical emotional, social and intellectual needs of the children.
  • Participating in and contributing to the development, evaluation and reflection of the programme, including documentation in journals, day books and projects in line with the Early Years learning Framework
  • Providing rich, stimulating, age appropriate experiences that promote, encourage and foster a sense of wonder, curiosity, learning and independence.

 

Some of the required skills, experience and qualifications

Essential Criteria:

  1. 2 year TAFE Diploma of Children’s Services or equivalent.
  2. Must meet Child Protection Act requirements and hold a current NSW Working with Children Check clearance
  3. Current First Aid Certificate; and completion of or willingness to undertake approved course/s in Anaphylaxis and Asthma Management.
  4. Willing to undertake role of Responsible Person under the National Education and Care Services Regulations.
  5. Identify and Respond to Children at Risk of Harm Statement of Attainment
  6. Centre based Education and Care experience.
  7. Demonstrated ability to plan and implement developmentally appropriate and inquiry/interest based programmes for individual children and groups of children.
  8.  Assume the role and responsibilities of Room Co-ordinator when requested by the Centre Co-ordinator and/or Manager, Children’s Services
  9. Commitment to ongoing professional development to ensure an understanding of current early childhood knowledge, legislation, research, theory and practice.
  10. Knowledge of positive behaviour and guidance techniques and strategies for children.
  11. Working Knowledge of National Quality Framework including: National Quality Standards, National Education and Care Services Regulations, Early Years Learning Framework and Assessment and Rating System.
  12. Ability and willingness to provide leadership and professional support where appropriate.
  13. Proven ability and commitment to work as a self-motivated and active part of a team.
  14. Proven interpersonal skills, including the use of verbal, written and technological communication.
  15. Ability to provide excellent customer service including interacting and communicating effectively with children, parents, staff and other stakeholders
  16. Knowledge and understanding with a commitment to implement EEO & WH&S principles.

Desirable Criteria:

  1. Statement of Attainment in Nutrition and Menu Planning (HLTNA302B) and Safe Food Handling (THHGHs01B)
  2. Willing to undertake the role of Educational Leader as required by the Centre Co-ordinator/Nominated Supervisor, Co-ordinator Children’s Services or Manager, Children’s Services.
  3. Commitment to environmental protection and sustainability.
  4. Knowledge of a Second Language.
