Position Information

Hebersham Public School is located in Mt Druitt Western Sydney region and was established in 1972 on the land of the Dharug people. Enrolment is currently 630 students with 50% from non-English speaking backgrounds and 21% from Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander backgrounds. The school has 25 mainstream classes and three support classes for students with autism and behaviour disabilities.
Hebersham Public School is an Early Action for Success school and is supported by Instructional Leaders working K-3 and an Aboriginal Instructional Leader supporting ATSI students 3-6.
Literacy, Numeracy and student welfare are our key priorities with a strong emphasis placed on quality teaching, Learning Progressions, PLAN V2, Language, Learning and Literacy (L3), Visible Learning and Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL).
The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program is supported by the staff, students and community. The school has employed kitchen and garden specialists who conduct weekly lessons to all Stage 2 classes.

Selection Criteria

Approval to teach K-6. Approval to teach (primary) English as a second language or currently completing or currently enrolled in an approved post graduate qualification for teaching English as a second language K-6 as recognised by the NSW Department of Education.

Demonstrated teaching experience and the ability to design and implement differentiated literacy and numeracy activities and individual education plans that support student learning.
 
Highly developed organisational, communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work as part of a team to build positive relationships and effectively communicate with students, staff and parents/caregivers and outside agencies.
Understanding of the needs and cultural diversity of students from low socio-economic status communities.
 
Knowledge of and commitment to Aboriginal Education policies, programs and working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

If applicable engagement will be temporary until successful completion of the approved post graduate qualification for teaching English as a second language (K-6) as recognised by the NSW Department of Education, which must be completed within 12 months.
