About the opportunity 
The Senior Advisor role delivers strategic advice, consultation and guidance through the establishment and execution of new and strategic initiatives. This role supports the Director, Strategic Ventures, Vice-Principal (Strategy) and other subject matter expert leads to provide high quality consultation, conducts advanced research and discovery, and design for new strategic ventures, including their implementation and performance monitoring and review. The Senior Advisor partners with senior stakeholders across portfolios, faculties and other communities to deliver major strategic initiatives of the University. 

The Strategy Portfolio is responsible for driving the strategic agenda across the University, including providing analysis, insight, and high-level advice to the Vice-Chancellor and Principal and the University Executive on key strategic issues and opportunities. The Portfolio instigates and facilitates strategic dialogue across the University to inform the development of strategy and planning, and to drive collaboration, partnerships and opportunities for the University. The Portfolio leads the design and development of the University’s strategic planning process and the related performance monitoring and implementation. The Portfolio incorporates the Strategic Planning and Analysis Office, Strategic Ventures Office and the Central Program Management Office (PMO).

About you

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline and extensive relevant work experience, including an established track record in a relevant industry or function
  • Extensive experience in consulting, business case development and design of transformational projects. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the analysis of the performance of business models, including operational and financial analysis.
  • Excellent high level strategic and analytical skills, demonstrated ability to analyse, interpret and integrate complex data and provide strategic direction and analysis to senior management.
  • Experience managing multiple work streams, or leading large complex projects and ability to work according to strict deadlines and manage various demands
  • Effective managing of a diverse group of key stakeholders on large or complex projects and the ability to develop/cultivate productive relationships with industry providers and key users. The ability to develop a highly consultative work environment.
  • Awareness of emerging and effective sector related trends, including the research and education policy and funding landscape and performance nationally and internationally, together with government objectives and priorities
  • Comfortable in ambiguous settings with the ability to design tangible outcomes from strategic ideas and concepts
The successful candidate will also possess excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with sound negotiating and conflict resolution skills and a demonstrated level of tact and discretion in dealing with a variety of matters.
