About the Company
For the last 30+ years, our client has manufactured purpose built pumping systems designed to their client’s requirements and specifications with a proven reputation of quality, reliability and service, supplying to a wide range of client’s in the Mining, Oil & Gas, Construction, Heavy Industry and Utilities industries.
Due to the recent retirement of one of our client’s warehouse operatives, there is an available role within the stores department.
Overview of Operations
A quick overview of our client’s operation would be beneficial to provide some background in relation to the available role.
Our client manufactures specialised pumping equipment, having a massive product range, which is not “off the shelf”, where most equipment is tailored to the client’s requirements and requires specialised engineering design.
The equipment is all built “in-house” to spec, by the following key departments;
- Fabrication
- Mechanical Assembly
- Electrical
- Testing
The stores department is a key link in the manufacturing process as the stores provide all the materials and parts for the production departments to carry out their responsibilities. Due to the huge range of products, the stores department hold over 3000 parts with the main categories of parts including;
- Fixings
- Pipe & Pipe Fittings
- Electrical Components
- Valves
- Pumps
- Diesel Engines
- Electrical Motors
- Instrumentation
- Consumables
About the Role
This is a “hands on” role where you will be on your feet all day, on & off forklifts through to carrying out physical tasks regularly.
The role is one that has two key responsibilities which include;
- Management of Goods Receivable
- General Stores - Distributing parts & materials – In House
Management of Goods Receivable
This is the main responsibility of the available role and the successful candidate will be assigned as the main and Stores Person assigned to the management of all goods receivable.
There are numerous deliveries per day to our client’s facility that range from parcel post (envelopes to boxes) through to large bulk deliveries (Ugly Freight & Palletised).
When a delivery arrives, you will give the delivery priority over all other tasks and complete the following;
- Direct the delivery driver of where to park
- Assist (if required) to unload the delivery into the lay down area
- Check the delivery Con Notes as well as the Delivery Docket
- From the in-house system print out the PO (Purchase Order) allocated to the delivery
- Break open the delivery and visually check parts or materials in the delivery having attention to detail in ensuring the parts in the delivery are exactly what is noted on the delivery docket or PO. For example, if Pipe was delivered, it is the correct length & diameter
- Check & reconcile the delivery with the Delivery Docket & PO
- Put aside or deliver any items that were back orders or require expediting to production departments
- Enter the items that were receives onto the system
- Put away all delivery items into the correct shelving using a fork lift or by hand
Apart from the managing the goods receivable you will also have to develop strong working relationships within the stores team as well as Production Managers and workshop staff as the production teams may be waiting for parts or materials to complete a job.
As priority items and the level or urgency are hard to capture on a stores system, on a daily basis you will be liaising with the teams to find out if they have any outstanding parts so if the delivery arrives, you will know to get that part to the team asap rather than have it in a laydown area or in shelving.
General Stores - Distributing parts & materials – In House
When you are not working on deliveries you will be conducting general stores activities which mainly comprise of the following;
- Picking parts and materials for production using – BOM List (Bill of Materials) or As Builds (Technical Drawings & Parts List)
- Distributing parts & materials in-house to relevant departments
- Processing picked parts & materials onto the stores system, ensuring that job numbers, quantities and parts numbers are entered correctly
- Stock Control – Assisting with stock takes
- Fork Lift Operating (Counter Balance or High Reach) 6 shelves high
- Picking up parts from local suppliers using the company ute or truck
- Using fork lifts or overhead cranes to move equipment within the workshop, this can be large skid mounted equipment that can be up to 2 tonnes or more.
About the Candidate
As mentioned, this role is very hands on and candidates must be physically fit to carry out manual handling tasks regularly.
Candidates must have at least 2 years experience as a Store Person, having excellent fork lift skills as well as experience in processing stores on a computer system.
Candidates that have stores experience in either manufacturing (ideally mechanical related) or for companies that have large parts stores especially in mechanical or electrical are encouraged to apply;
Essential criteria for this role includes the following
- 2 + years experience in similar role
- Possess a valid High-Risk (LF) fork lift ticket
- Experienced and competent in operating fork lifts – High shelving & heavy loads
- Possess a valid “manual” C Class WA drivers licence
- Have 2 + years experience in using stores software for goods receivable or outgoing
- Have a good mechanical aptitude relevant for identifying parts
- By physically fit to carry out manual handling tasks
- Desiring on going permanent work
- Be a team player that enjoys contributing to a shared goal
- Be an excellent communicator, with very good English skills (verbal and written)
- Be highly organised and able to prioritise and manage numerous tasks at the same time
- Have a “pro-active” work attitude, possessing initiative and good problem solving skills
- Be competent on using computers especially in stores software as well outlook and excel
Although not essential candidates with the following skills or qualification will be viewed on favourably;
- High Reach forklift experience
- Experienced in moving heavy and ugly loads on fork lifts
- High Risk or similar tickets in load restraint or dogging and / or Rigging
- HR or higher - truck driving licence
- Experienced in parts interpreting – mechanical or electrical
Remuneration
Initially this is a casual / temp role for 2 to 4 weeks, where if the successful candidate is a good fit with the client there is a possibility of going onto a permanent basis.
The starting pay rate is $25.00 per hour + OT + Super.
