The opportunity

An exciting opportunity is now available for an experienced Category Manager – Packaging, to join our team. The role holder will also manage additional categories outside of packaging.  The position will be based in our Dandenong Sth, VIC, branch and will report to our Senior Category Manager. 

The role requires you to manage and strategically develop the product ranges and suppliers in assigned categories to drive cost savings, and maximise sales and margin growth. Under direction from the Senior Category Manager you will undertake all commercial negotiations and tender activity connected with product sourcing and award of supply contracts.

The successful candidate must demonstrate experience in rigid and flexible packaging, with particular emphasis on FMCG.  Some technical knowledge in one or several areas of food packaging is required.

Main Responsibilities include:

• Managing relationships with manufacturers/suppliers
• Assist the sales function to deliver increased category sales and margin growth
• Strive to be the subject matter expert within assigned categories. 
• Contribute to strategy for identifying new sourcing regions and suppliers to develop.
• Understanding of working capital position and management of inventory on national basis
• Management of product range
• Marketing and promotion of product range to include marketing collateral
• Develop marketing collateral and campaign management.
• Negotiating supplier pricing, terms and rebates
• Supplier DIFOT performance

Desired Skills/experience/attributes:

• Experience in procurement and supply chain positions.  Experience in packaging is essential, with particular emphasis on FMCG, in flexible film, corrugated board, glass, rigid plastics, paper bags/sacks, bulk bags, parchment, foil and labels.
• Demonstrated experience in product or category management.
• Extensive experience in a multi-site / multi-pick, trading environment.
• Experience of Low cost country sourcing and imports preferred.
• Thorough knowledge and understanding of purchasing principles and disciplines.
• Experienced negotiator with a strong track record of building relationships which have made a significant contribution to overall profit of a Company.
• The ability to drive cost savings, and to identify and mitigate risk
• Evidence of working effectively with internal business functions - Sales, Supply Chain/Inventory and QA.
• Commercially experienced with a track record of delivering sales and profit growth
• Medium to advanced computer skills – highly competent in Excel analysis
