About the business and the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join one of the independent market leaders, Freight Mart International.  Freight Mart International an Australian Independent owned and operated company with offices across Fremantle, Brisbane, Melbourne, Malaysia and Thailand is seeking a Licences Customs Broker to join our Melbourne Team.

This rare opportunity will allow the successful experienced candidate to manage the customs clearances for the Melbourne and Brisbane offices with this newly created role.  

Job tasks and responsibilities

Reporting to the Melbourne Office Manager, responsibilities will include:

  • Timely lodgements for the Melbourne and Brisbane offices and at times of peak period assist where necessary for our Fremantle Office.
  • Classifications for both Import and  Export shipments - air and sea
  • Checking and approving all import documentation ensuring it meets Australian Standards
  • Provide guidance and advice on classification and tariffs both internally and externally
  • Pay duties and taxes for all entries
  • Refunds and drawbacks as required
  • Advise fellow team members of any  AQIS, IFIP, Red Line and IEQ impediments 
  • Tariff advice and Tariff Concession application where appropriate
  • Maintain all relevant Broker accreditations
  • Highlight clearance issues to ensure customers needs are serviced quickly and accurately
  • Adhere to client specific SOP's
  • Attend internal meetings with key stakeholders when necessary
  • Attend external client meetings when necessary

Skills and experience

To be successful in this role you should:

  • Minimum 4 years experience in Australian Customs Brokerage
  • Licensed Customs Broker 
  • Up to date Broker Accreditations - Broker CPD, DAWR, AEP commodities NCCC etc
  • Excellent knowledge of Customs Tariff
  • Excellent general product knowledge
  • Experience with CW1
  • Excellent Organisational Skills
  • Good knowledge of MS Office in particular outlook and Excel
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
