We are recruiting a full-time Sydney-based Senior Policy Analyst. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in research and analysis of the PRC and/or the Australia-China relationship. The Senior Policy Analyst is expected to:

  • Conduct independent research on the Australia-China relationship and foreign and domestic policy developments in the PRC
  • Provide clear and concise written analyses
  • Brief China Matters’ government and corporate stakeholders
  • Propose policy recommendations for the Australian government, business community, and other stakeholders in the Australia-China relationship
  • Liaise with senior stakeholders across government and the private sector
  • Assign and oversee research tasks of other team members

Essential criteria:

  • Postgraduate degree in China/Asian studies, international relations, international business, security studies, public policy or similar
  • At least five years of relevant professional experience in government, academia, think tanks, non-government organisations or similar sectors
  • Demonstrated research and analytical skills, and extensive knowledge of the PRC
  • Proven organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
  • Full working rights in Australia

Desirable:

  • Good Mandarin reading and speaking skills
  • Prior engagement with Australia-China relations
  • Experience working with international policy-related issues
  • Experience liaising with senior public servants and business executives
