Lead in the development of the Falkland Island’s wool industry.
This is a new and very demanding two-year opportunity, for a respected individual to deliver a true legacy of innovation in the industry at the heart of our remote but vibrant rural community.
The new Director of Wool Innovation will be employed by the Falkland Islands Development Corporation (FIDC) which has engaged in a rigorous process to seek value-adding opportunities for Falkland Islands wool. Now, with the creation of a Wool Innovation Group and a defined programme for delivering real value benefits, the successful Director will take the lead, notably to:
· Secure international recognition for revised standards in preparation, classing and description of our wool, via a Quality Falklands Wool (QFW) scheme;
· Develop a market reporting portal and appropriate price index;
· Advise on and encourage benchmarking activity.
The successful candidate will be expected to come to the post with significant wool industry knowledge and international credibility - ideally with a minimum of seven-years’ experience in high-level wool advisory, marketing and project management and they should have a well-developed professional network in primary and secondary sectors.
The ability to work effectively with all stakeholders, including government and non-government agencies, farmers, wool brokers, buyers and the media are essential attributes - as is a demonstrated ability to shape innovation through strategic and creative thinking.
It is likely that, to meet the technical demands of the post, applicants will have a degree in agribusiness/economics or agricultural science, or a related discipline.
This is a full time position starting with a 2-year contract. Rewards will be commensurate with skills, knowledge and experience and as well as an internationally competitive salary will include an end of contract bonus of up to 25%, flights and relocation plus of course the many advantages of living in this safe, tranquil and beautiful location.
