The Hunter Business Chamber (HBC), a branch of NSWBC is committed to representing the interests of its members by providing a powerful voice to all levels of Government and key decision makers on behalf of the Hunter region and its business community. 

The Role: (Based in  Newcastle)

The Hunter Business Chamber is seeking an experienced Policy Manager to support the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) – Hunter Business Chamber (HBC) 

The Policy Manager role includes analysis, research and development of policy matters which impact on businesses in the region. Highly developed written and analytical skills are key to this role as is an understanding of relevant industry and business issues in the regions and NSW.

Strong written skills including ability to write detailed submissions to government, media releases, advisory committee papers and ability to draft policy recommendations from research and consultations, are essential deliverables of this role.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in policy development and influencing outcomes - Government advisory experience preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with stakeholders, including all levels of government, industry bodies, NSWBC and members
  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously, maintaining effectiveness and accuracy
  • Business acumen and organisational awareness with the ability to understand big picture strategy and policy issues
  • Well developed  research and analysis skills
  • Assist with representation on various government committees, advisory boards and/or industry forums
  • Demonstrated experience in communications, message development, and media relations
  • Manage preparation of policy submissions and policy communications material
  • Understanding issues affecting regional businesses or relevant industry sectors
  • Strong analytical and negotiation skills
  • High level written and oral communication skills
  • Tertiary qualifications in an appropriate discipline -  example economics, law or business related
