About the role

Due to our rapidly expanding work program NGH is seeking to employ a full-time Heritage Consultant in our Brisbane office, specialising in Aboriginal and historic heritage to join our friendly and dynamic team.

You will have experience in Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Management and preferably Historic Heritage Management in Queensland and/or NSW. You will possess a good understanding of site survey methodologies and field site recording.  You would also have experience in undertaking, heritage assessments, report preparation and Aboriginal community consultation and client liaison.

The successful applicant will have at least 2 years' experience as an archaeologist or heritage consultant. You will enjoy working in a team of other likeminded heritage consultants and as part of a broader multi-disciplinary team, working both in Queensland and NSW and thus prepared to travel.

The NGH heritage team has a wide range of skills and experience and our growing work program is diverse –and regularly requires survey and excavation for small and large projects including State Significant projects. Basic GIS skills would be preferred. We currently work in Queensland, NSW, ACT and Victoria, offering the successful applicant the chance to further their own career in a growing company.

Essential Criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications in Archaeology / Cultural Heritage to minimum Honours level or equivalent
  • At least 2 years' experience as an archaeologist or heritage consultant
  • Experience in conducting Aboriginal heritage surveys, site recording and report preparation
  • Knowledge and experience in the application of the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 2003 including the Department of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships Duty of Care Guidelines.
  • Excellent communication skills, including report writing, verbal communication, stakeholder management and the ability to effectively consult with Aboriginal and non- Aboriginal community
  • Experience in Microsoft Office computer programs and industry specific programs including GIS
  • A current Australian Driver's License (Manual license)
  • Being able and prepared to be flexible when undertaking field work and can work in remote locations
  • Knowledge of WHS obligations and responsibilities relevant to the role

Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge/experience NSW heritage legislation and OEH Guidelines and Codes of Practice
  • Excavation experience
  • First Aid Certificate
  • 4WD training
