Overview

Normet Asia Pacific (NAP) is an International Market Leader with over 50 years' experience in the development, production and sales of equipment and vehicles to underground mining and tunnel construction companies. In addition, NAP provides construction chemicals and a comprehensive range of life-time care services for their widespread range of equipment.

An exciting opportunity to join this dynamic team has become available within the Perth (Midvale), WA branch. Reporting to the Engineering & Delivery Manager in Adelaide, the newly appointed Mechanical Engineer will be primarily responsible for supporting Normet in producing engineering design documents, machine modifications, developing service kits and customer manuals in compliance with Australian standards, industrial guidelines and legal requirements.

Responsibilities

Additional tasks for the role are as outlined below but not limited to:

  • Assist the team to specify, design, document, purchase parts/components and manufacture modifications to equipment.
  • Generating BOM's (Build of Materials) based on Activity Plan for each machine build.
  • Research and develop service kits, produce design drawings and develop critical parts list in conjunction with Normet International’s engineering department.
  • Assist with Service Quotations.
  • Continuous development of instructions, user manuals and guides to support Normet’s equipment and assembly and maintenance of aftermarket modifications.
  • Identify errors, omissions and other deficiencies within user manuals and recommend revisions and/or improvements.
  • Research and develop manuals/critical parts lists in conjunction with NOY Engineering group.
  • Preparation and modification of machine trouble shooting guides, tear downs, re-assembly manuals and service tools and kits.
  • Directing, reviewing and approving product design and enhancements ensuring compliance with Australian standards, industrial guidelines and legal requirements.
  • Undertake testing on site and participate in customer meetings when required.
  • Undertake training and remain familiar with use and applications of Australian and European design standards and legal requirements for mobile equipment in the underground mining industry.
  • Reviewing, documenting and recording changes to all engineering processes.  
  • Where required, undertake and/or manage risk assessments of mobile mine equipment.
  • Manage and assist the engineering team with root cause analysis of machine/parts field failures and actions to prevent reoccurring issues.
  • Utilize the design and documentation software and product data management systems provided by Normet Finland.
  • Cooperate and work closely with Operations/State Managers, Equipment Sales Managers, Regional Business Manager and Supply Chain Manager.
  • Support Sales team with customer liaison, including visits to customer sites to formulate product specifications and quotations.
  • Ensure all manuals and documentation is 100% accurate and completed within agreed timelines.
  • Ensuring BOS is implemented, including diligent use of corrective and preventative actions and continuous improvement processes.

Experience

To be considered for his role, the successful candidate must possess the desired attributes:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (Essential).
  • 5+ years’ experience in the same or similar role.
  • Experienced in design of mechanical devices, components and equipment for mobile vehicles used in mining and/or defence industries.
  • Experience as a technical fitter from an underground mining environment is highly desirable.

Skills

The successful applicant must be able to display the following characteristics:

  • Efficient user of computer aided drafting software such as; Autocad, Inventor, ERP, Sovelia, CRM or LinkOne.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High-level organization and planning skills.
  • High-level problem analysis and problem-solving skills.

This position is a Full-Time – permanent, role starting as soon as practicable. The successful candidate must be able to undertake a pre-employment medical at NAP's request. The successful candidate will be required to travel nationally therefore the candidate must be flexible with travel as it may come at short notice.
