This is an exciting time to join PanAust, a copper and gold producer, with operations in Laos and a large pre-development project in Papua New Guinea. PanAust’s producing assets in Laos are the Phu Kham Copper-Gold Operation and the Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver Operation, managed by our subsidiary company, Phu Bia Mining. Both of these operations are delivering strong production and cost performance. PanAust holds an 80 per cent interest in the Frieda River Copper-Gold project in Papua New Guinea, one of the largest known undeveloped copper and gold deposits in the world, which will become a long-life open-pit operation. The strategic direction of the Company is to maximise returns from its producing assets while advancing pre-development projects that offer potential to sustain and grow the business in the long term.

Our modern mine camps provide a range of Western and Asian food and sporting and recreational facilities, including football field, gym, pool tables and wet mess.

 

This position is based at our Phu Kham Copper-Gold Operation, located approximately 120km north of the Lao capital, Vientiane. Phu Kham is a conventional open pit mine producing approximately 85,000 tonnes of copper concentrate annually. The process plant, upgraded to a design capacity of 19 million tonnes per annum, comprises a SAG mill and two ball mill grinding circuits, each rated at 13 mega watts, with copper and precious metal recovery by flotation. 

 

Reporting to the Mobile Maintenance Manager, you will lead a multi-disciplined team of approximately 200 staff responsible for the maintenance of the mining fleet which includes hydraulic shovels and excavators, excess of fifty (50) 100t OHT (Off Highway Trucks) and large ancillary fleet of dozers, grades and wheel loaders. All maintained in a world class facility and is accredited by Caterpillar, as one of only four (4) 5 Star contamination control facilities for an owner miner. With a comprehensive PCR (Planned Component Replacement) strategy embedded this ensures we maintain the fleet at optimal reliability. All PCR’s are completed in our stand-alone PCR workshop, supported by our onsite CRS (Component Rebuild Shop). Working closely with the Mobile Maintenance Services Superintendent (responsible for LV – HV, mobile cranes, CRS, fabrication and tyre repair), your key deliverables will focus on planning and implementing maintenance strategies for continuous improvement with emphasis on safety, productivity and cost.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Development, support and implementation of the area Safety Management Plan in the pursuit of building a safety culture within the department
  • Manage the mobile maintenance team ensuring all targets and business objectives are met
  • Meet immediate and short term maintenance activities, whilst instilling a continuous improvement culture
  • Develop, plan and implement strategies for continuous improvement in maintenance performance
  • Implementation of Lean principles and PBM Asset Management Improvement Program Initiatives
  • Develop and maintain a culture focused on delivering “best practice” maintenance and safety outcomes

 

 

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • Unwavering safety focus
  • Mechanical Engineering Degree or Trade qualification
  • Extensive experience in a heavy mining fleet
  • Proven experience at Superintendent level
  • Ability to develop and manage area budgets and support the capital planning process
  • Project management experience is highly desirable
  • Strong understanding of modern maintenance systems, planning and scheduling processes
  • Strong commitment to training and supporting the development of Lao National employees
  • Lean or Six Sigma process experience is highly regarded
