The Role

A ‘greenfield’ opportunity has become available within the Waterway Construction Division reporting to the CFO, for a Procurement Category Manager. The primary responsibility of this role will be to optimise value while controlling risk for various procurement categories, through strong supplier and stakeholder management across the company.

The role will require exceptional relationship building skills and the ideal candidate will have a proven track record in leading and implementing sourcing strategies for labour hire and subcontract engagements.

Key Responsibilities of this role include:

  • Building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and customers;
  • Leading, preparing and evaluating category RFQ, RFT processes;
  • Project tendering for major spend initiatives, in support of the Project Manager
  • Collaborating with Project Teams to optimise procurement processes and outcomes
  • Identifying procurement improvement opportunities and savings initiatives;
  • Gathering business requirements / specifications;
  • Conducting direct negotiations with suppliers / subcontractors;
  • Recommending preferred suppliers / panels;
  • Preparing and implementing supplier / subcontractor contracts;
  • Monitoring and reporting on compliance to preferred suppliers and contract terms;
  • Assessing and determining long term procurement category strategies;
  • Conducting market analysis (identifying alternative sources of supply);
  • Evaluating and improving supplier performance;
  • Managing Internal customer engagement;
  • Responsibility for and assistance with all non-project related indirect procurement;
  • Oversight of the company purchasing procedure;
  • Improving processes, policies and procedures;

What you need to be successful in this role:

  • 5 to 8 years strategic sourcing and category management experience in a resource, energy, or construction environment
  • High levels of analytical ability and change management skills
  • A track record of delivering results in a fast-paced dynamic environment
  • Strong negotiation, influence and communication skills
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and able to work independently or within a team environment
  • Strategic approach and outcome oriented
  • Some travel required
