The role

An exciting residential opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our Gold Operation in regional NSW. Cowal is a first class open cut mining operation, approximately 45kms from the town of West Wyalong and 450km west of Sydney.  It is centrally located to a number of large regional towns and facilities.

What will you be doing?

Reporting to the Mine Engineering Services Superintendent you will be responsible for the geotechnical data collection, monitoring, design and analysis to support mining operations and tailings dam / lift construction. 

• Play a key role in mine planning activities, mentoring and assisting Engineers, Surveyors and Geologists
• Undertake geotechnical analysis and modelling to determine design parameters for pit optimisation and pit designs that ensures safe and optimal extraction of ore.
• Establish, implement, maintain and review risk assessments, control measures, procedures and management plans pertaining to geotechnical risks and hazards associated with open pits and tailings dam activities.
• Establish, maintain and review processes for ensuring adequate geotechnical mapping, wall monitoring, monitoring of piezometric levels necessary to facilitate identification, assessment, control and management of potential open pit and tailings dam wall failures.
• Manages geotechnical projects within budget, time and safety provisions including depressurisation drilling programs
• Co-ordinate activities to investigate and close out safety incidents that pertain to geotechnical hazards.
• Ensure geotechnical considerations are taken into account in all operational activities such as drill and blast and waste dump construction.
• Coordinate appropriate storage of geotechnical and geological data collected to ensure corporate knowledge is appropriately retained.
• Take an active role in the tailings dam facility design process and liaises with the Engineer of record for design of site tailings facilities
• Manage all software requirements and ensure all licences are up to date and budgeted
• Commit to maintaining health, safety and security standards and principles, both within own workplace and through the identification of potential risk throughout Evolution

Are you the one?

• Degree qualifications in Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology
• Substantial experience in a similar role
• Open Pit experience is essential
• Surpac Mining software is highly regarded however not essential
• Knowledge or training in Geotechnical analysis software suites
• Demonstrated ability to manage people.
