About Mackay Shipyard
Pacific Marine Group (PMG) is a marine contractor at the forefront of the Maritime Industry in Northern Australia and the Pacific Rim that undertakes work across the marine sector. This role is an opportunity within the Mackay Shipyard section of PMG. The slipway has been servicing the Mackay and Whitsunday region for over 20 years, accommodating vessels up to 600T, 50m long and 18m beam.
About the role
PMG is currently seeking a Supervisor at the Mackay Shipyard to assist in managing and coordinating the staff and work undertaken at the facility. Reporting to the Manager – Mackay Shipyard, the Supervisor is responsible for assisting with the coordination of vessel repairs and maintenance, to ensure that all work is carried out in a professional, proficient and timely manner whilst ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory and safety obligations. In addition, you will provide supervision and guidance to the workforce and liaise with customers and clients regarding project progress.
This is a great opportunity to help lead and manage a small team while working in a varied and interesting environment, undertaking maintenance and refurbishment work on a variety of projects. The role will also require you to engage regularly with the greater PMG business based in Townsville.
About the candidate
The role will place the successful candidate within a highly skilled and specialised team carrying out repairs to all types of vessels.
The successful candidate for this role must have:
- Previous marine or shipyard experience including engineering, structure/repairs, abrasive blasting and protective coatings.
- Marine engineering certificate or equivalent experience with vessel maintenance
- Supervising experience with a varied team of tradesmen and labourers
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with clients, suppliers, sub-contractors and staff.
- Focus on completing work to a high standard, in a safe and timely manner.
About the application
This position will require the incumbent to be based in Mackay and would not be suitable to FIFO arrangements. The successful candidate must have full and current Australian working rights and will be required to undergo a medical and/or police check.
