Kirkland Lake Gold is an international mining and exploration company focused on safely meeting production targets and sustainable growth. The company owns and operates the Fosterville Gold Mine in Central Victoria.
The Fosterville Gold Mine is a medium sized mining operation which is located approximately 20 kilometres east of Bendigo in Central Victoria. With its population of approx 100,000 people, Bendigo is one of Victoria’s largest and fastest growing rural cities and offers a great lifestyle choice.
MINE GEOLOGIST - DRILLING
Fosterville Gold Mine invites suitably qualified and experienced individuals to apply for the position of Mine Geologist - Drilling. The primary purpose of this position is to assist in coordinating a dedicated project team committed to providing professional support to the mining and contract drilling operations and to ensure organisational forecasts are met on a consistent basis whilst maintaining safety standards at all times.
Reporting to the Mine Geology – Drilling Coordinator, your duties will include:
- Assisting the drilling team and provide professional support to the mining and contract drilling operations to consistently meet organisational forecasts.
- Demonstrate a dedicated safety focus, through active promotion of safety awareness and effective management of safety related issues.
- Develop and manage resource definition drilling projects to ensure timely and cost effective completion in line with operational forecasts.
- Logging and interpretation of diamond drill core
- Assist drilling geologists and sampling crews in data collection, collation, analysis and interpretation in line with operation forecasts.
- Supervision of Drilling Contractors.
- Liaise with Contractor, Maintenance, Technical and Operations teams on the short to medium term drill schedules to ensure that the plan aligns with operational capabilities.
- Complete weekly and monthly reporting
- Mentor/develop the drill team's geological knowledge
The successful candidate should possess the following:
- A bachelor degree in science (geology) or equivalent qualification
- A minimum of 2 years' experience within an mining environment (underground desirable but not essential)
- Geological core interpretation and logging ability
- Experience with AcQuire and Minesight (or similar) software packages
- An understanding of QAQC, aligned with NI43-101 and JORC requirements
- Strong communication & interpersonal skills
- Sound understanding of structural geology
The roster for this residential position will be Monday – Friday, nominal 40 Hours/Week.
